Post-op care was a massive umbrella. It covered everything from the attending surgeon's follow-ups, to the nursing staff's bedside manner, all the way down to a lowly anesthesiologist's routine rounds like mine.
"So, did the Thorne Family really hire a top-tier legal team to sue Ferris?" Zoey asked.
Leon glanced at Zoey, then back at me. "From the looks of it, the Thornes are out for blood. They'll pursue this to the bitter end."
His words plunged both Zoey and me into a heavy silence.
While we were talking, the Neurosurgery staff were summoned into the interview room. Their session dragged on for half an hour.
Once they finally filed out, it was Anesthesiology's turn.
Inside the cramped, sterile room, Dr. Logan, Amber, and I sat in a neat row facing three serious-looking officials from The Medical Board.
"Did the Anesthesiology department notice any abnormalities during Beatrice Thorne's post-op rounds?" the lead investigator asked. He flipped a page. "And was the anesthesia dosage strictly tailored to her specific physical requirements?"
Dr. Logan answered with absolute certainty. "Everything is clearly documented on her medical charts. Every single step we took was rigidly calculated based on the patient's physical metrics. We operated with extreme caution."
After a few more targeted questions about the anesthesia protocol, the investigators signaled the end of the session. We all stood to leave, but just as I reached the door, they called my name.
"Dr. Hayes, a colleague reported that you had a conflict with the Thorne couple during a ward round. Is this true?"
I had anticipated this coming up, but being singled out still made my pulse spike. I stuck to the truth. "There was a slight misunderstanding initially, but we resolved it quickly. We actually became quite friendly afterward."
"Do you believe this conflict could have negatively impacted the patient's mental or physical state?"
