I seemed to hear Ferris calling out again, his voice growing more frantic and shrill by the second. It was completely completely different from his usual calm, detached demeanor.

His tone was laced with pure terror and anxiety.

I forced my eyes open, greeted only by blinding white snow and the jagged rocks peeking through the ice. The freezing air hit my face, violently yanking my scattered thoughts back to reality.

I knew this wasn't a dream.

I had been in a bad collision.

I tried to push myself up, but the moment I shifted, a stabbing pain shot through my ankle, forcing me to suck in a sharp breath of frigid air.

Terrified, I froze completely, too scared to even breathe. Glancing back at the cliff-like drop behind me, my heart leapt into my throat.

I didn't dare finish the thought.

I silently ordered myself to stay calm, but watching the netting give way sent an unprecedented wave of dread washing over me. Thinking of my dad lying in the Greenwood Care Center, of Lucille, and of Ferris, a heavy lump formed in my throat, and hot tears threatened to spill over.
