The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 134

I stared at her in confusion. She looked out into the dimly lit garage, raised her hand high above her head, and beamed brightly. "Ferris! Over here!"

I followed her gaze, and a bitter sense of irony washed over me.

Ferris was here.

"It started raining outside, and Ferris was worried about my commute, so he offered to drive us..." She glanced at me hesitantly, then pointed down at her chic pointed-toe ankle boots. "You don't mind, do you, Selena?"

Looking at the tall, imposing figure of the man standing a few yards away, a sharp pang tightened my chest. Still, I kept my voice perfectly level. "Beats taking the subway. It's fine."

I just knew there was no way to hide the fact that I was apartment hunting from him now.

But it didn't really matter. I had to move out of Eden Gardens eventually anyway. I was just getting a head start.

We got into the G-Wagon. Zoey slid into the passenger seat and smoothly buckled up, chatting away. "You just got out of surgery, you must be exhausted. Selena and I could have found the place on our own, you really didn't have to drive us all this way."

"It's raining out," Ferris's deep, resonant voice drifted back from the driver's seat. "Besides, it's not that far."

Zoey lowered her head in a bashful, almost sickly-sweet manner. "Thank you, Ferris. You're always so good to me."

His soft chuckle drifted to my ears. I discreetly glanced at the rearview mirror, catching the gentle upward curve of his lips.

It was an incredibly tender look—and a violently painful one to witness.

I awkwardly looked out the window, terrified I might betray my turbulent emotions.

Ever since I stepped out of the elevator, Ferris hadn't spoken a single word to me beyond a stiff nod of greeting.
