Selena's name was once again lumped together with Zoey's.
From the mouths of my colleagues.
And I was framed as the one tagging along for the ride.
Even though I had known all along that Ferris was protecting Zoey, the existence of our marriage certificate made me feel a subtle, invisible wave of humiliation.
"Don't say that, Zelda," the young girl's voice steadied a bit. "Selena is a mutual friend of Ferris and me. Even if it wasn't for me, with his personality, he wouldn't have just stood by and watched."
I forced a bitter smile as I heard Zelda reply, "You're wrong about that, Zoey. Think about it. When something like this happens, the administration usually prefers to hand down punishments behind closed doors. But doing that would only resolve the conflict between Curtis and the hospital; it wouldn't directly restore your reputation. Bringing in the authorities was the only way to ensure a fair and public resolution. Ferris was so ruthless and decisive because he wanted to teach those gossiping rumor-mongers a lesson."
I had to admit, Zelda's analysis was spot on.
"Then, Zelda, do you think Ferris will be disciplined for going against the administration's wishes and getting held back just now?"
"Probably not. With his status at Capital General, the leadership will probably just turn a blind eye."
