The Cold Surgeon's Contract Bride novel Chapter 105

Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Ferris walked straight to Zoey's side.

The young woman pouted, looking up at him with immense grievance before fat tears started rolling down her face like pearls off a broken string.

Seeing this, Zelda quickly handed her a tissue and consoled her, "Don't cry, Zoey! Dr. Sterling is right here. If you've been wronged, just tell him."

See? Even Zelda knew Ferris was only here to back Zoey up.

Even though, legally speaking, he was still my husband.

"Zelda, maybe it's just a misunderstanding?" Zoey choked out, her pretty face stained with tears. "I don't think Selena is that kind of person."

Zelda rolled her eyes dramatically, scoffing, "You're only saying that because you're too nice. You can know a person's face but not their heart! If you ask me, someone's just terrified you'll snatch the top intern spot, so she's deliberately playing dirty behind your back."

The more I listened, the more absurd it sounded. I fired back, "Listen, Zelda, you've been throwing out thinly veiled insults this whole time. Tell me, do you have any actual proof that I reported Zoey to HR?"

Zelda choked on her words for a second. She looked at Zoey, then at me, and snapped, "People saw you go to the HR department this morning. That's a fact, isn't it?"

"Yes, I was called in to cooperate with an investigation. So what?"

Zelda's expression faltered upon hearing that. She hesitated for two seconds before puffing up her chest again. "Fine, even if that's true, how do you explain the portrait rights and defamation claims? The photo Zoey posted only featured you and Dr. Cross, and he's miles away at another hospital. Who else could have filed a complaint for those two things besides you?"

Her twisted logic actually made a perverse sort of sense.
