Chapter 74
My heart skipped. How does he know I told her?
“She asked about it once.” I softened my voice, went apologetic. She was so curious about you, about your past. And she’s Christine’s
daughter-I’ve known her since she was little. I didn’t think sharing a few stories would matter.”
But clearly it did. Why?
Blake stayed quiet too long. When he finally spoke, his voice could have frozen hell.
“What exactly did you tell her?”
“Just… the basics.” I swallowed hard, suddenly nervous. “That we were trapped in the fire. That you were unconscious. That I stayed with
you until help came.”
All technically accurate. Just missing the part about Aria being there too.
“Nothing else?”
“Nothing else.” The lie came smoothly. “Blake, what’s this about? Did something happen?”
He stood abruptly. I fought not to flinch. When Blake got cold like this, someone was about to get destroyed.
Please don’t let it be me. Not when I just got back. Not when I’m so close.
“Don’t tell her anything else about us.” Clipped words, final tone. “Nothing about the fire. Nothing about our past. Nothing.”
“Of course.” I made myself sound meek, obedient. “I’m sorry, Blake. I didn’t mean to cause problems.”
But what problems did I cause? What does he know?
Movement at the door caught my attention. A shadow shifted in the hallway, just visible through the gap.
Someone was listening.
I raised my voice just enough to carry. “Blake? Do you really hate her that much?”
He was adjusting my blankets, his back to the door. He couldn’t see what I saw-Aria’s reflection in the hallway mirror, frozen like a deer
in headlights.
Let her hear this.

‘I married her for convenience. His voice came out flat, emotionless. Brutal in its honesty. “Nothing more. But she keeps trying to make it
something else. Keeps pushing boundaries. It’s… distasteful.”
I watched Aria’s reflection crumble in the mirror. Her hand pressed against the wall for support, her whole body seeming to fold in on
itself.
That’s right, sweetheart. Know your place.
Then she was gone. Silent as a ghost, disappearing down the hallway.
Good. Maybe now she’ll stop trying to play house with my Blake.
“That sounds awful. I touched Blake’s arm, sympathy filling my voice. “Maybe you should consider divorce? I hate seeing you this
miserable.
This was it. My first real push since returning from Europe. He’d agree, file the papers, and I’d be there to comfort him through the
process. Simple. Clean.
Finally get what I deserved.
Blake went completely still.
Then he pulled his hand away from mine. The motion was controlled, deliberate, careful. When he turned to face me, his expression made
my blood run cold.
“I have no plans to divorce Aria.” He stated it firmly, like a business decision. “She meets my needs perfectly. We’ll continue our life together, barring any unforeseen circumstances.”
Something flickered in his eyes-a memory, maybe. For a moment he seemed torn, as if remembering something important. But whatever
it was, he pushed it aside.
No. This can’t be happening.
*Emma, rest now.” He moved toward the door, already dismissing me. ‘I’ll check on you tomorrow. I’ll have Jack stay here to take care of
you.
When the door closed behind him, I stared at the ceiling. Rage built inside me like a pressure cooker about to explode.
How dare he? After everything we’ve been through! After everything I’ve sacrificed!
I’d waited ten years. TEN YEARS. Played the long game, built my international career, enhanced my reputation, all while planning my
triumphant return to claim what was mine.
And now he claimed that mouse of a woman ‘met his needs’? That he had no plans to leave her?

Unacceptable.
I grabbed my phone, scrolling through contacts until I found the number I needed. My hands trembled with fury as I dialed.
“Hello?” The voice answered on the third ring.
I gripped the phone so hard my knuckles turned white. “I know you hate Aria. Work with me and I’ll give you anything you want.”
If Blake won’t choose me willingly, I’ll just have to remove his other option.
