Chapter 60
My hand lingered on her cheek. The urge to kiss her hit hard and fast, stealing my breath. Where the hell had that come from?
Her hand moved to her stomach, protective even in sleep. “No… please…”
I should have pulled back. Should have left the room. Should have done anything but what I did next.
I kissed her anyway.
EMMA
“I want an explanation, Emma. Right now.”
My father’s voice cut through the dining room. I’d never seen him this furious. Not even when I’d wrecked his vintage Porsche.
“Dad, if you’d just let me explain-”

“Explain what?” He leaned forward, both hands flat on the table. “Explain why you stood by while Blake humiliated that girl? Explain why you thought any of this was acceptable?”
Mother sat perfectly still beside him, but her silence was worse than his anger. “We didn’t raise you to be cruel, Emma. We raised you to
be better.”
“Blake made the decision! He’s the one who told her to clean up that mess. What did you expect me to do?”
‘Intervene!” Dad’s fist hit the table. “You’ve never had trouble changing Blake’s mind before. Don’t pretend you’re helpless now.”
That hit too close to home.
“The truth is, you didn’t want to stop him,’ he continued, his voice dropping to something dangerous. “You wanted to watch. You wanted
her to suffer.
“That’s not fair-
“I told you about that carriage house. I specifically told you not to demolish it. I told you to build your dance studio anywhere else on the property.” His jaw clenched. “But you refused. You knew what that building meant to the Taylors, and you tore it down anyway.”
My hands gripped the edge of my chair. “It was just an old building. It’s not like-
“It was their family history! Aaron Taylor restored that carriage house himself. He spent years on it. And you turned it into a pile of rubble just so you could have your precious studio.

Chapter 60
“I didn’t force Aria to clean it up. That was Blake’s-”

“You invited her to see it.” Mother’s quiet words cut deeper than Dad’s shouting. You specifically asked her to come see the studio. You wanted her to know what you’d destroyed. What Blake had destroyed for you.”
I couldn’t deny it. The moment I’d learned Blake had visited that carriage house with Aria, I’d wanted it gone. Wanted her to see it demolished. Wanted her to understand that Blake would erase her memories to build my dreams.
“So I’ll ask you again.” Dad’s voice was ice. “Do you hate her that much? What has Aria ever done to earn this treatment?”
She existed, I thought. She existed, and Blake noticed her, and that was unforgivable.
“You’re right.” I let my voice break, shoulders drooping forward. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking clearly.”
Mom’s expression softened immediately. Dad’s anger dimmed slightly, though suspicion lingered in his eyes.
“Seeing them together just… it hurts so much.” I made sure a single tear slid down my cheek. “I love Blake, and watching him with her makes me do things I’m not proud of.”
“Emma…” Mom reached across the table, taking my hand.
“No, you’re absolutely right to be angry. I was horrible.” I let my voice shake. “I’ll apologize to Aria first thing tomorrow. I’ll make this right, I promise.”
Dad studied me for a long moment. “See that you do. This behavior stops now.”
“I understand.” I kept my head bowed, playing the repentant daughter perfectly.
They dismissed me with instructions to get some rest. I walked to my room slowly, shoulders slumped, the picture of remorse.
The second I reached my door, I straightened. The act dropped from my face instantly.
