Chapter 33
“Where did Mr. Morgan go?”
“Important call. James’s hand suddenly landed on my thigh under the table. His fingers squeezed. Moved higher.
I froze. “Mr. Williams- I grabbed his wrist. Tried to push it away.
‘Relax. He moved his chair closer. Blocked me in. “Blake knows the arrangement. You’re part of the deal, sweetheart.”
My blood turned to ice. “What deal?”

“Emma gets her contract.” His other hand slid up my arm. His fingers brushed the bare skin of my shoulder. Then lower. “I get some
consideration. Everyone wins.”
No. This can’t be happening.
“You’re drunk. I shoved his hand away. Started to stand.
James grabbed my wrist. Yanked me back down. His hand moved toward my chest.
“Stop!” I twisted away. My elbow hit his ribs hard.
“Bitch-James’s face turned red. His grip tightened on my wrist until I thought the bone would snap.
I grabbed my champagne glass. Threw the contents in his face.
The liquid hit him square. Champagne dripped down his shocked expression. His shirt was soaked through.
The table went silent. Everyone stared.
“Keep your filthy hands off me,” I said. My voice shook with rage. “I’m not part of any deal.”
James wiped his face. His expression turned ugly. Dangerous. “You little whore. Do you know who I am?”
‘Is there a problem?” Blake’s voice cut through the room.
Relief flooded through me. Finally. He’s back.
Blake stood in the doorway. He took in the scene. James’s wet shirt. My disheveled dress. The overturned champagne glass.
I stood up. Walked toward him. “Blake, he-

“James, I apologize.” Blake’s voice was cold. Professional. He wasn’t even looking at me. “My wife isn’t used to these events.”
The relief died. Turned to ash in my mouth.

“Not used to- James sputtered. He pointed at his ruined shirt. “She assaulted me!”
“Aria. Blake finally looked at me. His ice-blue eyes held no warmth. No concern. Just cold calculation. “Apologize to Mr. Williams.”
I stared at him. The words didn’t make sense. “What?”
“Now.” His tone left no room for argument. “We need this partnership. Don’t make this more difficult.”
The room spun. Everyone watched. Waited to see what I would do.
He knows. He knows what James did. And he wants me to apologize.
“Blake, you know he-
“Lower your voice.” Blake stepped closer. His hand closed around my elbow. Squeezed hard enough to leave marks. “You’re making a
scene.”
“A scene?” My voice cracked. “He assaulted me. He said you sold me-*

“Whatever happened, you will fix this.” Blake’s eyes were glacial. “Emma’s contract depends on Goldstein’s goodwill. Don’t ruin this for
her.
There it was. The truth laid bare in front of a room full of strangers.
Emma’s contract. Emma’s success. Emma’s everything.
And I was just the price Blake was willing to pay.
“Apologize, Blake said again. Quieter this time. More dangerous. “Or face the consequences.”
I looked at James. He smirked now. Confident. Blake Morgan’s wife wouldn’t dare fight back.
Then I looked at Blake. At the man I’d married. The man I’d thought would protect me even if he didn’t love me.
You were never going to save me. You were just going to sell me.
“No.” The word came out steady. Clear.
Blake’s expression didn’t change. But his grip tightened until I gasped. ‘What did you say?”

“I said no.” I pulled my arm free. Red marks bloomed where his fingers had been. “I won’t apologize to a man who assaulted me. Not for
you. Not for Emma. Not for anyone.”
The room was dead silent. Even James had stopped smirking.
I walked toward the door. Each step took everything I had.
Behind me, Blake’s voice cut through the silence. “If you walk out that door, there will be consequences. Severe ones.”
