Chapter 207

BLAKE

:..

“Aria,” I whispered, my voice breaking. “Why do you always hurt me in the simplest ways?”

She glared at me, chest heaving. “You promised to talk civilly with me. Is this your idea of a civil conversation?”

“Cancel the wedding,” I demanded again. “Take off this dress. Stop trying to take my children to live with Redwood. Then we can talk

civilly.”

“You’re being insane!” she snapped.

“Am I?” I let go of her wrists, stepping back. “You were pregnant with my children. They’re three years old now. Why didn’t you tell me?”

Aria laughed bitterly. “Oh, that’s rich. Who was it that monitored my every move to ensure I wouldn’t get pregnant? Who warned me repeatedly that I should never bear the Morgan family heir? Should I have told you so you could drag me to a hospital to terminate the

pregnancy?”

Her words hit me like a physical blow. My face drained of color, my left hand trembling uncontrollably while my right clenched so tight

the veins bulged.

“I was wrong,” I admitted, my voice barely audible. “Everything that happened then-I was wrong.”

I fought back tears, refusing to let them fall. “I’ve been trying to make it right. I’ve been searching for you, following every lead, doing

everything in my power-

“Good for you,” Aria interrupted coldly.

“How could you keep this from me?” I demanded, my voice rising again. “While I was selling my soul to the devil trying to find you, you

were hiding my children from me!”

The pain was unbearable. ‘Do you know what you’ve done to me? I was ready to end everything after making sure my mother was taken

care of.

I looked directly into her eyes. “I wanted to die, Aria.”

ARIA

I stood frozen as Blake’s words hung between us. His confession that he had wanted to die knocked the wind out of me. The man who

once controlled everything now stood before me with bloodshot eyes and shaking hands.

Do you know what I went through? For years, I turned over every rock, I truly thought you might be dead! And to find out now that all

that time, you were hiding my children from me?”

‘What was I supposed to do?” I fired back. “Wait for you to decide if our children deserved to exist? You made it clear you never wanted kids with me.

Blake stepped closer. Those are my children too, Aria. Mine!”

“They stopped being yours when you picked Emma over me!” I exploded. “You tossed me aside. Don’t play victim now!”

‘I screwed up,” he admitted, shoulders dropping. “But you’re punishing me by taking away something I never knew existed. How is that fair?

I crossed my arms. “Life isn’t fair. You taught me that lesson.”

Blake struggled for control. “How can you let another man raise my kids?”

“Matthew’s been there for us when we had nothing. Where were you?”

“I’ll be there now,” Blake insisted. “Call off the wedding. Let me be a father to William and Aurora.”

I shook my head. “No. I’m marrying Matthew. My children stay with me.”

Something in Blake shattered. The anger drained from his face, replaced by raw pain. He turned away, running his hands through his hair.

“You’re really going to let another man raise my kids when I’m right here begging for a chance?”

“This is about what’s best for William and Aurora.”

“And I’m not what’s best for them?”

“They barely know you, I pointed out. “William already hates you, and Aurora only knows you as ‘uncle. You want to flip their world

upside down?

Blake went quiet, staring at me. Then his expression changed to resignation.

“You’re right,’ he said quietly.

His sudden agreement threw me off balance.

“You say William hates me. I saw it in his eyes.” Blake laughed bitterly. “My own kid sees me as the bad guy.”

“He’s only three. He just doesn’t know you.”

“And whose fault is that? Mine. I drove you away. I was caught up in paying back Emma. I never thought you might be pregnant.”

Would it have changed anything? I couldn’t help asking.

“Everything would ve been different.

His honesty made my throat tighten. For a moment, I imagined what could have been.
