Chapter 19
Kai waved his hand and had the waiter bring small dishes and drinks.
The two of them clinked glasses first.
Harold set his glass down, lit a cigarette, and casually placed the lighter on the table. Holding the cigarette between his fingers, he picked up the teapot and poured himself a cup of tea.
He asked Kai, “Weren’t you doing store inspections today? How was this quarter’s performance?”
Kai shrugged. “More losse’s than gains.”
“Where’s the problem?” Harold exhaled a thin stream of
smoke.
He could offer occasional advice on business matters, but Kai hadn’t yet reached the point where his company was in serious trouble, so it wasn’t something to worry about too much.
Instead, Kai eagerly shared the gossip he had witnessed 14

lady of the White family… First time seeing her up close. Oh man, she’s ridiculously beautiful. More beautiful than all 18 of my exes combined.”
Harold paused mid-motion with the ashtray.
Then he flicked ash off as if nothing had happened and continued the conversation. “A young lady like that still needs to personally deliver clothes to the cleaners?”
“She wasn’t there to wash clothes. It was a blanket. A hand-embroidered, hand-stitched Wedding Blessing Quilt. You could tell it was a wedding gift at a glance. But somehow, a dog peed and defecated all over it. Seven or eight large stains. It was filthy and reeked terribly.”
“I was going to say she should just throw it away, but she was extremely attached to it. She cried so hard, like a willow in the rain… I couldn’t stand it, so I took the job.”
“But I regretted it afterward. It’s made of new cotton, and the stitching is so complex that an average person can’t figure it out quickly. Even if you wait ten or fifteen days, there’s no way to restore it to its original state.”
Harold stopped smoking. No one knew what he was 17:14 thinking as the faint smoke curled between his fingers.

His expression remained calm. “If she cared so much, why wasn’t it stored properly?”
Kai said, “I don’t know. But she seems to really hate dogs The moment dogs are mentioned, she looks like she wants that dog gone on the spot.”
Then he added with some relief, “Good thing she isn’t your fiancée. You love keeping dogs. Four at home wasn’t enough, and you even adopted a retired service dog.”
Harold snuffed out his cigarette and looked at him. “You called me here just for gossip?”
“Yeala. Isn’t gossip part of meeting up? You’ve never dated anyone anyway, you wouldn’t understand talking about women. Or do you want to talk work? It’s after hours, man.”
“If we’re not talking work, then let’s go somewhere else. The shooting range.”
Harold stood up first.
“…Hey, I don’t want to go to the shooting range either,”
Kai groaned.

The guy was a monster.
Except for romance, he was flawless at everything. Whatever he picked up, he mastered it. Whatever he mastered, he dominated.
It was almost unfair.
Kai genuinely wished someone could finally be his natural enemy.
He wanted to see what Harold would look like when he actually lost.
Elise inexplicably felt her ears grow warm.
She cooled them with bottled water before going to bed.
The next morning, she showed up at Novatech Global in a sleeveless top, white blazer, and a knee-length skirt.
Her energy was sharp and composed.
Her long hair was loosely tied back low at the nape of her
neck.

silhouette.
The moment she entered the company, she effortlessly drew everyone’s attention.
When Landon arrived, he overheard employees
whispering in groups.
“They made such a mess and she’s still coming to work? No pride at all.”
“Come on, can you really throw away Mr. Carter just for pride?”
“Mr. Carter is young, capable, and can support the White family’s company… Ms. White isn’t stupid. She probably just cooled down and came back to hold onto him.”
“I think so too. She probably just can’t bring herself to apologize, so she’s using work as a way to back down.”
Employees from the R&D department had attended the wedding, and part of the company had heard about what happened.
