< The Bride He Took for Granted
Chapter 15
The moment Elise stepped into the main building, she heard a puppy-like whimper coming from the western kitchen area.
She turned her head and saw a small brown Teddy dog.
It wore a golden bell collar and was staring pitifully at a man and a woman feeding each other tomato meat sauce
sandwiches.
Landon had a faint smile on his face. He leaned down and kissed the corner of Joan’s mouth.
His tongue lightly brushed his lips as he said, “I wiped off the sauce for you. How are you going to thank me?”
Joan blushed and pushed him slightly. “Annoying.”
Elise’s gaze turned cold.
The Teddy dog caught the scent of a stranger, ran out, and barked furiously at Elise.
As if she had trespassed into its territory.

standing in the living room, upright but thin like a shadow.
A flicker of panic and uncertainty crossed his eyes.
“Elise… what are you doing here?”
Elise stared at Landon.
Those once-bright eyes now looked like ashes, reflecting no light at all.
She looked at him, yet it felt as if she saw through him completely.
Not a single ripple remained in her heart.
Joan walked beside Landon. The two of them stood shoulder to shoulder as they entered the living room.
Joan bent down and called softly, “Dingdang.”
The Teddy dog whimpered unwillingly in its throat, then leapt into her arms.
When Joan petted its head, the ring finger on her left 27
hand was raised prominently.

Pink. A 5.20-carat center diamond.
Designed by Landon based on Elise’s birthday on the second day of the fifth lunar month.
He had said the number 520 also represented his feelings. He loved Elise…
Joan stared straight at Elise, tilting her chin up slightly with a proud and triumphant posture.
She was waiting for Elise to explode.
Better yet, to argue fiercely with Landon, the harsher the
better.
But Elise only lowered her gaze slightly, her expression completely calm.
Not a single change in emotion.
Her composure made Landon feel an inexplicable
irritation.
She had always been like this, her emotions as light as ripples on water.

him with clear eyes.
She clearly liked it, clearly expected it, yet never showed any excitement.
It made him feel like half his accomplishment had been drained away.
The more he thought about it, the more annoyed he became. He turned his face away coldly and ignored her.
Elise scanned the living room and asked, “Where is my package?”
“What package? I don’t know.” Landon’s tone was cold and sharp.
Elise replied calmly, “The package delivered by the property management.”
After a brief moment of thought, Landon said,
“The one wrapped in a floral quilt? I threw it in the storage room.”
Joan’s motion of stroking the dog paused.

and said to Landon,
“Was that hers? Why did you put it in the storage room? I thought it was trash.”
Landon turned to her. “You threw it away?”
“I didn’t throw it, but I…”
Elise had already opened the storage room door.
Because the house had not been fully moved into yet, there was almost nothing inside.
She did not see the floral quilt package.
But as she walked closer, she smelled a strange odor, slightly foul, like it was coming from under the stairs.
Elise frowned slightly.
She closed the storage room door and walked to the
stairwell.
First, she saw a blue-painted dog cage, with an automatic feeder and a large-capacity water dispenser beside it. 17:1

Elise’s eyes widened. She quickly walked forward.
In the living room,
Joan was “regretfully” saying to Landon,
“I saw that quilt was all patched up, so I thought both your and Elise disliked it. I used it as a pee pad for the dog.”
“You can’t blame me. The filling inside was cotton. Even rural areas now use silk quilts. Cotton is outdated. Who knew wealthy people like you would still go back to basics?”
