~ ROSELLE ~
"You wench! You fucking Westbrook bitch! You... you killed my son!"
The door bursts open as Ravenna storms into the room, tears streaming down her face as she fights desperately against Garrett and Beau. Both men are doing everything they can to hold her back, but she continues struggling against them, her furious eyes locked directly on me.
Celeste and I immediately pull apart, our attention darting toward the door. My heart slams painfully against my ribs as Ravenna’s words sink into my head.
Ronan. No. My entire body goes cold.
No. No. No. Fucking no. Ronan can’t be dead. He can’t fucking be dead.
"What..." My voice catches in my throat as I stare at Ravenna, suddenly struggling to breathe. "What did you just say?"
"You heard me!" she screams, another sob ripping through her. "You killed him! You fucking killed my son!"
The room seems to tilt below my feet as I stumble backward, my hand flying to my chest. My heartbeat is so violent that it hurts, but somehow, I can barely feel anything beyond the terror consuming every part of me.
"No." I shake my head rapidly. "Ronan isn’t dead."
Nobody answers me.
I look desperately toward Beau and Garrett, searching their faces for anything that will tell me Ravenna is wrong. "Where is he?" I demand, my voice breaking. "Where the fuck is Ronan?"
Their silence makes my stomach drop even further.
Celeste grabs my arm as though sensing that my legs are about to give out, but I barely notice her touch. All I can think about is Ronan leaving this room only hours ago after kissing me and promising that everything would be fine.
He can’t be gone.
"Tell me he’s alive!" I scream, tears burning my eyes as I look between Beau and Garrett. "Someone fucking tell me where he is!"
Last night, we were fine. Everything was fucking fine. We were laughing together, teasing each other, and getting ready for the ceremony like nothing in the world could possibly go wrong. The only thing out of place was the Lycan escaping, and even then, Ronan had looked me in the eyes and assured me he would handle it.
How the fuck did everything fall apart this quickly?
"I gave you an opportunity!" Ravenna screams, snapping me out of my thoughts. "I told you to leave him while you still could. I warned you, Roselle. I told you to stay away from my son, but you refused to listen!"
My lips part, but no words come out as she continues fighting against Beau and Garrett, tears streaming relentlessly down her cheeks.
"You killed my son!" she cries. "You turned him into a monster. You came into his life and destroyed everything he spent years trying to control. You... you fucking ruined him!"
Before either guard can react, Ravenna suddenly jerks herself free from their grip and lunges toward me.
Her palm flies across my face.
The slap snaps my head to the side, and a sharp sting spreads across my cheek, but the pain barely registers, It’s not compared to my aching chest that already feels like someone has ripped it open and shoved their hand inside.
"Lady Ravenna!" Beau immediately grabs her again while Garrett steps between us.
I barely notice them. One word keeps repeating inside my head.
Monster. Which could only means he’s not dead.
My head snaps back toward her as a tiny shred of hope forces its way through the terror consuming me.
"Does that mean he’s alive?" I ask breathlessly.
Ravenna stills.
"Ronan is alive?" I repeat, stepping forward despite Garrett standing between us. "You said I turned him into a monster. That means he’s alive, doesn’t it?"
Her expression crumples.
The force of the slap sends my head snapping to the side, and Celeste immediately reaches for me as I stumble backward. Beau grabs Ravenna around the waist and pulls her away while Garrett quickly steps between us, preventing her from getting anywhere near me again.
"Dowager Luna Ravenna, enough!" Garrett warns, but she doesn’t seem to hear him.
I slowly turn my face back toward her, my cheek burning from the impact, but the physical pain feels insignificant compared to the ache tearing through my chest. Tears blur my vision as I stare at her, unable to find a single fucking word to defend myself.
"Nikolai is dead," Ravenna says, her voice cracking as another wave of grief consumes her. "And my son might as well be dead too. Everything he spent years building is falling apart right in front of him, and somehow, every road leading to this disaster starts with you."
Celeste stiffens beside me at the mention of Nikolai, and I feel her fingers tighten painfully around my arm.
"I think you’ve done enough damage," Ravenna continues, wiping angrily at the tears streaming down her cheeks. "More than enough."
She takes a shaky breath before straightening herself, and when she speaks again, her voice carries an authority that makes my stomach twist.
"I want you out of Blackshadow."
My heart skips.
"What?"
"You heard me." Her chin lifts despite the tears still staining her face. "Leave this pack, Roselle. Pack your things and go back to Westbrook, or go wherever the hell else will take you. I don’t care anymore."
My lips part, but nothing comes out.
"You’ve brought enough destruction into my son’s life," she says bitterly. "I’m not going to stand here and watch you destroy whatever is left of him too."
"Dowager Luna Ravenna, you don’t have the authority to make that decision," Beau interrupts firmly. "Only the Alpha can banish someone from Blackshadow, and Alpha Ronan gave us direct orders to protect the Luna."
"Luna?" Ravenna lets out a broken, humorless laugh. "Look around you, Beau. There might not even be a fucking Alpha left by the time this is over, let alone a Luna."
