'Obviously, focusing on the Immortal Elements doesn't work. Can't you see that?! Why are you looking at a different Immortal Element? What makes this Element different from the other one?!'

Her frustrations welled up and weakened again.

'We have an agreement. He also wants to comprehend his Imposing Law. He only spent about 50,000 years in the Law Well for Immortal Earth. Someone like him can't comprehend a Level Seven Law in such a short amount of time. It took me almost 200,000 years to comprehend my first Level Seven Law, and I only managed to learn it during a battle.'

These thoughts calmed down her frustrations. 'That means he's not focusing on comprehending the Level Seven Laws. If he did, he would stay there longer. It looks like he's trying to comprehend his Imposing Law.'

The Overseer's eyes narrowed. 'But I still don't like it.'

She remembered Swamp Dragon's words.

'He said that he isn't telling me everything, which means there are things that I haven't noticed. But what am I supposed to do?! If I kill them, I will ruin my best shot at getting out of here!'

The Overseer gritted her teeth and clenched her fists in a mix of frustration and rage. 'How come I can't control a bunch of mere Ascendants?! I'm the Overseer! I'm supposed to be the one in control!'

At that moment, she remembered her conversation with the Will of Death.

'Freedom and control. The shadow's words are absurd, but the things that have happened seem to confirm its words.'

'Assuming the shadow is right, there can be freedom without control and control without freedom.'

'Should I let go? Should I just let them do whatever they want?'

As the Overseer deliberated that thought, everything inside of her seemed to resist it. This entire concept of freedom and control simply rubbed her the wrong way.

'Idiocy disguised as profound wisdom! How can you possibly have freedom without control?! If my life is in the hands of other beings, how can I possibly experience freedom?! It makes no logical sense! I would be forced to do whatever these other beings say! How is that freedom?!'
