She Was Never Just the Billionaire’s Wife (Natasha and Chase) novel Chapter 17

Chapter 17 Confession Time

(Natasha)

“Mom. Dad.”

Stepping away from Eleanor, I walk straight toward the open doorway.

My adoptive parents drop their travel bags on the floor and rush forward to pull me into a tight, happy hug.

My mother kisses my cheek repeatedly. My father wraps his strong arms carefully around my shoulders, mindful of my large stomach.

Tears fill my eyes. I’m so happy to see them.

They’re incredibly warm and decent people.

My biological father died when I was a teenager, leaving me completely alone after my mother abandoned me.

Mr. and Mrs. Kelly were his closest friends.

They immediately took me in.

It meant I had to leave California and move to Pennsylvania, but the change of scenery did me good.

I moved into their quiet home and lived with them for four years before moving back to California for college.

We don’t get to spend a lot of time together these days.

My career keeps me very busy in Los Angeles, but they love me deeply, and I love them right back.

Pulling away from the hug, my mother looks at me with wide, worried eyes.

“Did we hear you right just now?” my mother asks, her voice trembling slightly.

“Are you divorcing Chase?”

Nodding slowly, I squeeze her hands to reassure her.

“Yes, I am,” I answer quietly.

“I’ll tell you everything later.”

A loud scoff comes from the other side of the room.

Eleanor Warren steps forward.

She crosses her arms and glares at my parents with pure disgust.

“She is not divorcing my son,” Eleanor announces loudly, making sure everyone hears her.

“Chase is divorcing her.”

My father steps in front of me immediately, shielding my pregnant body from Eleanor’s sharp glare.

“Chase and the entire Warren family would have been incredibly lucky to have Natasha,” my mother tells Eleanor.

“She’s brilliant and hardworking. But more importantly, she’s a good person. If your family can’t see her value, then leaving is the absolute right choice for her.”

Eleanor opens her mouth to yell, but Mason steps into the middle of the room.

“This conversation is over,” Mason states smoothly.

“Natasha needs to rest in a quiet environment. We’re leaving now.”

My parents nod and ignore Eleanor’s poisonous glare.

Walking down the bright hospital hallway, I lean heavily on Mason, while my parents walk close beside us.

“Who brought you to the hospital?” my father asks.

“A business rival. His name is Nathanial Morton. You don’t know him.”

I catch a wide-eyed look passing between my parents.

“Nathanial Morton?” my mother asks, her voice sounding shaky.

“What’s wrong?” I ask, confused by their reaction.

“Do you know him?”

My parents look at each other again.
