Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1289

"Do you have a fever? Does your wound hurt? Is it infected?"

Frantic with worry, she tried to pull her hand back to check his forehead.

But before she could move, Remington clamped his large hand over hers, pressing it firmly back against his bare abdomen.

His expression was dark, complicated, and utterly frustrated.

Realizing that the only emotion on her face was pure medical concern—without a single trace of shyness or desire—he felt a cold bucket of water splash over his ego.

It was a massive blow to his pride. He was starting to question his own appeal.

Lizetta stared at him. Seeing his lips pressed tightly together in brooding silence, her anxiety mounted. She pushed against his chest and demanded,

"Say something!"

"Mmph..."

The only answer she got was a low, muffled groan.

At the same time, she felt the rigid tension of the muscles beneath her palm.

The realization finally hit her, and a furious blush crept up her cheeks.

"Liz, has my body completely lost its appeal to you?"

His voice was thick and sulky. Lizetta's ears burned. Utterly exasperated, she pinched him lightly.

"You literally have a bullet hole in you. Can you stop messing around!"

She shot him a heated glare, but the liquid shy warmth in her eyes was incredibly seductive.

Honestly, Remington hadn't planned on messing around. His shoulder throbbed in genuine agony, and the sheer exhaustion of the past few days was weighing on him.

Most importantly, a hospital room was hardly the place for inappropriate behavior.

But he was just so incredibly frustrated. They had been separated for what felt like an eternity.

Leaning back slightly, he locked onto her with dark, teasing eyes that burned with intense heat.

A small smile touched Lizetta's lips. Instead of answering, she simply leaned in and captured his mouth in a passionate kiss.

It wasn't a brief peck. She poured every ounce of her love and pent-up passion into it, using the kiss to burn away the terror and anxiety of the past two days, and to silently thank him for bringing their Joy back to her alive and well.

The sudden, fiery intensity of her kiss caught Remington off guard. Groaning, he eagerly pulled her flush against him and kissed her back with equal ferocity.

The air between them crackled with sweet, heavy intimacy as their breaths mingled.

It wasn't until Lizetta ran out of breath that she finally tilted her head away, opening her hazy, desire-filled eyes to tell him to stop, only to suddenly freeze when she met a pair of wide, crystal-clear, entirely innocent baby eyes.

It took Lizetta several seconds to process what she was seeing.

Joy was awake!

And he was staring right at them.
