Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1272

As Jerome walked away, Lizetta answered Remington's call.

She immediately shared the good news. "Remington, Eartha just agreed to let us video call Joy at eight tonight."

His familiar, soothing voice quickly filled her ear, wrapping her in a sense of safety.

"You did brilliantly."

A sudden, overwhelming wave of emotion choked her, and she gripped her phone tightly.

"What should I even say to him during the call? Will he understand me? What if he doesn't recognize my voice? I'm so terrified he won't know me, but I'm equally terrified that he will..."

If Joy didn't recognize her voice, did that mean he had endured horrific treatment over the past two days?

But if he did recognize the comforting sound of his mother, would it just make him cry harder and feel even more heartbroken?

Lizetta couldn't stop her spiraling thoughts. Even through the phone, Remington could feel her palpable anxiety.

His voice dropped into a low, gentle murmur. "Liz, Joy is our son. He is incredibly strong, far braver and more resilient than we could ever imagine."

"You're right," she whispered. "He's so tough. He was taken from us the moment he was born, prematurely at that. I know Martin West and his people never gave him proper care, yet he still grew up strong and healthy. Even when the West family's nanny neglected and abused him, our little boy fought to survive and knew how to ask us for help. He really is the most amazing child..."

As she spoke, her eyes brimmed with tears, making it impossible to continue.

Remington stepped in to comfort her. "Exactly. That's why Joy will stay safe and wait for us to bring him home."

His tone turned resolutely deep. "Liz, I promise you, we will confirm his exact location tonight. Tomorrow, I will bring our son back to your arms. Okay?"

Choking back a sob, she took a deep breath to steady herself before forcing a smile.

"Stop flying all over the place with him. I'm coming to find you both! We'll reunite right here in Zion City!"

"Alright. We'll be waiting for you," Remington replied firmly.

"Give it a little more time. Stay calm," the captain advised, maintaining a stoic expression.

Hearing his reassurance, Lizetta picked up her phone, woke the screen to check the battery and signal, and carefully set it back down.

Noticing her escalating panic, Nelson reached out and patted her shoulder.

"Patience."

In truth, Nelson's own palms were sweating profusely.

While they could pretend to agree to all of Eartha's demands and offer her a safe passage out of the country...

They all knew her treacherous nature. If they actually let Eartha escape abroad, she would likely never uphold her end of the bargain to return Joy.
