Detective Lawson approached Martin, his face completely stony.
"That's right. We have confirmed that the boy was abducted. As such, we need to take you in for questioning."
Martin stood frozen for a second before his face drained of color. His shock rapidly morphed into outrage.
"What the hell are you talking about? Why would my grandson be kidnapped? I personally handed him over to Remington! Now he's missing, and you're dragging me in instead of investigating the man who actually took him? I'm warning you, if you don't find my boy, I'll tear this city apart!"
Lawson ignored the threat, calmly pulling out a photograph.
"Calm down, Mr. West. Take a look at this. Do you recognize her?"
The picture showed a round-faced woman with her hair pulled back into a neat bun, wearing a dark red cardigan and a pleasant smile.
Martin glanced at it and scoffed.
"That's April, our maid. What does she have to do with Ron's disappearance?"
"Where is she right now?" Lawson pressed.
Martin looked incredulous. "How would I know? I don't keep tabs on the domestic staff."
He waved his butler over.
He let out a dark, mocking chuckle.
"Martin, before he was even born, the child was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. In the six months since his birth, have you kept up with his cardiology appointments?"
"Of course I have! Everyone knows Ron was fragile. We had to keep him in the NICU for a full month before bringing him home. But maybe God took pity on our family. Aside from a few minor illnesses, he's grown up healthy. Why bring this up now? Are you saying his heart condition might flare up because of the kidnapping? That's a real possibility! So why are you wasting time here instead of hunting down the kidnappers?"
Martin barked at the police in a panicked frenzy, but Remington brutally cut through his performance.
"Because Ron isn't your blood. And you've known it from the very beginning."

The readers' comments on the novel: Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington)
Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
