Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1262

By the time the thin morning mist cleared, the police had followed the breadcrumbs and apprehended Zack.

He was Sylvia's eldest grandson, barely in his early twenties. He was the one who acted as the middleman, dropping off Joy's blood sample at the designated spot for the hired hand to toss into the courier truck.

Zack thought he had outsmarted everyone by taking the long way around and deliberately picking a dead zone with no cameras to leave the sample. He genuinely believed the police would never trace it back to him.

He never expected to be dragged out of a nightclub by the cops before the night was even over.

He had been busy partying when the officers tackled him to the floor and hauled him in.

As the morning sun broke through the leaves of the camphor trees and cast a warm glow over Lizetta, Jerome hurried out of the police station.

Her eyes lit up as she rushed to meet him.

"Why didn't you wait in the car?" Jerome asked, his expression softening with concern.

He had spent the entire night coordinating with the police alongside the Madden family's men.

He had told her over the phone to just stay home and wait, but there was no way Lizetta could sleep at a time like this.

She had been waiting outside since dawn. Meeting his gaze, she offered a faint smile.

"You've been working all night. How are things looking?"

Jerome knew how desperate she was for answers, so he skipped the small talk.

"Sylvia's husband's last name was Brooks. The grandson's original name was Zane. After Sylvia left Tranquil Meadows five years ago, she changed the kid's name and got him a fake identity. He goes by Zack now, and he's been hiding out here the whole time. For this job, Sylvia told him to drop off the blood sample and immediately catch a ride out of the city. But she underestimated his arrogance. Zack thought he was a genius for using blind spots and doing a complicated drop-off. He figured he was untraceable, so he stayed behind to party at a club. That's how we caught him.

Kids like him are easy to crack. He spilled everything. The problem is, he has no idea where Sylvia is hiding, and he doesn't even have her contact info.

"You don't need to," Lizetta replied smoothly. "He heard everything."

She pulled her phone out of her pocket and waved it at him.

The screen showed an active voice call with Remington. He had obviously been listening in the entire time.

Lizetta had dialed him the moment she saw Jerome step out of the precinct, saving Jerome the trouble of repeating himself.

"I heard it all. Good work," Remington's deep voice came through the speaker.

The man paused for a second before continuing.

"This Zack's mother, Chloe... her fake identity is April. She used that alias to get a job as a maid at the West family's mansion. She was the one who ultimately abducted Ron. Did anyone press Zack on who set up those fake IDs? If we know their forger, we can track them."
