Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1258

A flicker of something complicated flashed across Eartha's face, but any trace of regret or internal conflict was quickly buried beneath her usual malice.

Clutching the document tightly, she locked eyes with Lizetta.

"Heh, how incredibly convenient. My kidney started failing exactly a month after this document was finalized. Isn't that just a little too coincidental?"

Seeing the pure, venomous suspicion on her face, Lizetta instantly understood her implication.

Furious and utterly appalled, she fired back, "Are you accusing my grandfather of orchestrating this? You think he caused your organ failure?"

Eartha smiled, nodding slowly. "Exactly. I wasn't even sick yet, but the old man just happened to have a donor ready? You don't find that suspicious?"

Her lips curled into a wicked sneer as she spat out her twisted theory.

"You Maddens are experts at playing the saint, acting all noble just to buy people's loyalty. Your mother did it! Your grandfather does it best! For all I know, he poisoned me himself, waiting for me to hit rock bottom so he could swoop in with a shiny new kidney and play the ultimate savior."

Hearing such vile accusations, Lizetta surprisingly found that her anger evaporated, leaving nothing but cold clarity.

She realized that Eartha was a fundamentally rotten, soulless creature, completely devoid of any basic humanity.

Lizetta reached out and snatched the folder right out of Eartha's hands, her voice laced with pure disgust.

"You don't even deserve to speak about my mother or my grandfather. You view the entire world through the lens of your own twisted, selfish, and deeply disturbed mind. You are truly pathetic. You have absolutely no concept of love or human decency. Since you've been locked in here, has a single person come to visit you? Has anyone asked how you're doing? Your beloved family and that man of yours have completely abandoned you, haven't they?"

Since her arrest, not a single member of the Porter family had shown their face.

Her words viciously tore into Eartha's deepest insecurities. Enraged, Eartha snapped, cutting her off.

"Shut your mouth! You know nothing! Don't you dare forget who holds your son's life in the palm of her hand!"

Lizetta's hands balled into tight fists. Remington reached over, his large fingers gently prying hers open before he directed an icy glare at Eartha.

"The evidence against you is absolute. Walking out of here a free woman is a pipe dream. First, you will prove that he is alive and currently in the custody of your people. Once that's verified, I can arrange your medical parole and your transplant surgery. We can negotiate the rest after that. But make no mistake, Eartha—we are not agreeing to a single one of your demands until we have definitive proof."

His voice was dangerously low, carrying a weight Eartha couldn't ignore.

And she knew he was right. Just giving them proof of life would be enough to secure her the life-saving surgery she desperately needed.
