Remington's lips curved into a faint smile. "Not at all. That's the absolute last card she has to play. It's her lifeline. No matter what you did in there, she was never going to just hand it over."
Lizetta let out a heavy sigh. "But what could she possibly know? And how is it about Joy..."
Her frown deepened. She just couldn't make sense of it.
What else could there possibly be regarding Joy that she and Remington didn't already know?
Hadn't the investigation uncovered everything?
Eartha had orchestrated the scheme, the Wests had carried it out, and they had even used Hanna Evert Dashiell as a scapegoat.
Was there some hidden truth beneath it all?
Lizetta's mind felt like a tangled mess. The harder she tried to untangle it, the more chaotic it became.
Remington's warm thumb brushed against her forehead, gently smoothing away the knot between her brows.
"Don't overthink it," he murmured, comforting her. "I'll figure something out. I will make her talk."
Having no better ideas, Lizetta met his deep, gentle gaze and nodded.
But even after leaving the station, her mind was clearly still trapped in Eartha's web, and she remained completely silent.
Remington held her hand firmly, offering his silent, steady companionship.
His expression grew heavy. After safely dropping Lizetta off at the Madden villa, he quickly left.
Back at The Belmont Grand, he immediately summoned Ray.
"Find a way to pry Eartha's mouth open," he ordered. "And bring me all the files from the investigation regarding Joy."
Ray blinked in surprise. The young master's case?
They had investigated it exhaustively. The culprits were already identified and dealt with.
What was the boss suspecting now?
Day faded into night.
In the detention center, it was lights out.
Eartha lay on the stiff metal bunk, wide awake.
She was completely exhausted, having been subjected to back-to-back interrogations without a wink of sleep.
Her head was splitting, and her body ached horribly under the physical strain, yet whenever she closed her eyes, all she felt was burning resentment and paralyzing panic. Sleep was impossible.
Her breathing grew ragged, her chest tightening painfully until she broke into a violent coughing fit.
With trembling hands, she reached for the pill bottle beside her pillow. She had formally requested her medication.
The guards had brought it in earlier. Eartha fumbled to unscrew the cap.
Just as she tipped two pills into her palm and moved them toward her mouth, a dark shadow lunged from the corner of the cell.

The readers' comments on the novel: Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington)
Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
