Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1216

And he planned to listen to it casually?

Liz glared at him, mortified. "You're a pervert! Where is your phone?"

Flustered and desperate, her hands scrambled across his tailored suit to find his device.

She slipped a hand into his trouser pocket, but instead of finding the sleek edge of a phone, she brushed against something entirely inappropriate through the fabric.

As if she'd been burned, her fingertips recoiled instantly.

She shot him another fierce glare, but Remington's expression remained completely unbothered, save for a slow bob of his Adam's apple.

"Did you find it?"

Liz bit her lip and hissed, "Jerk!"

Remington chuckled softly. "I was talking about the phone. What are you talking about?"

Speechless and flushed crimson, Liz couldn't form a comeback.

Refusing to let her off the hook, Remington stepped forward, his arm tightening around her waist. Liz backed up until her lower back bumped against the edge of the kitchen counter, her heart racing uncontrollably.

"How am I the jerk here? Between the two of us, you're the one whose hands are wandering all over the place."

Liz was left completely wordless.

Enveloped by his masculine scent and pinned against the counter, she instinctively brought her hands up to press against his chest.

Beneath her palms, she could feel the steady, powerful thumping of his heart—just as wild and fiery as it had been last night when she was trapped beneath him.

Her fingertips tingled. Just as she was struggling to figure out what to do, Zoey's sudden, polite cough sounded from the kitchen doorway.

Startled, Liz shoved Remington away with everything she had.

Zoey stepped fully into the room. Before she could even speak, Liz blurted out guiltily, "Is Grandma getting impatient? I'm almost done, it's going in the oven right now."

Zoey took one look at Liz's wildly flushed face and quickly averted her eyes, not daring to stare.

"No, Miss Liz. Grandpa Nelson asked me to tell you that Mrs. Madden got tired and fell asleep. He said there's no need to rush with the baking."

He was getting more shameless by the minute, saying whatever ridiculous thought crossed his mind.

She refused to entertain the conversation any longer, knowing it would only spiral into something more scandalous.

She quickly changed the subject. "What were you and my grandfather talking about in the living room earlier?"

She had been slightly worried that things would turn sour between them, so she'd kept an ear out. She'd heard murmurs of conversation but couldn't make out the words.

Given that her grandfather had let Remington wander into the kitchen instead of throwing him out like yesterday, something significant must have been discussed.

Remington didn't hide it. "We were talking about the new medication for Grandma's illness."

"New medication? What new medication? Why didn't I know about this?"

Naturally, Liz kept a close eye on any advancements regarding Bernice's condition, but she hadn't heard of any new drugs hitting the market recently.

She reached for her phone to look it up, assuming she had missed an announcement during the time she was hospitalized after her accident.
