Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1213

Liz stared at him in disbelief.

She had slept the entire drive here, and he had navigated perfectly fine on his own.

If he was going to make up an excuse, he could have at least put some effort into it.

But Nelson, having just settled into the car, overheard the exchange. Realizing that his wife's sudden burst of memory was indirectly thanks to Remington, his attitude softened a fraction. He cast a surprisingly mild look in Remington's direction, then turned to Liz.

"Liz, go ahead and ride with him."

Without waiting for her to respond, Nelson slammed the car door shut and urgently barked at Jerome to drive.

In the blink of an eye, the car sped off, leaving Liz standing in a cloud of exhaust.

She turned slowly, glaring up at Remington. "Did Grandpa really just abandon me here?"

Remington let out a low, rumbling laugh that vibrated in his chest. He slipped an arm around her waist, pulling her flush against him.

"To be precise, he entrusted you to me."

Seeing Liz still looking a bit dazed, a flicker of displeasure crossed his handsome features.

"What's wrong? Your grandfather is clearly warming up to me. Aren't you happy?"

Remington hooked a finger under her chin, tilting her face up. Meeting his dangerous gaze, Liz quickly nodded.

"I'm happy! Of course I'm happy. It's just that this was way too..."

She wanted to say *way too easy*.

But as Remington's eyes narrowed, she immediately swallowed the words back down.

"Alright, let's hurry up and follow them. I want to see how Grandma is doing."

She pushed gently against his chest, breaking free of his hold, and pulled open the passenger door.

Remington watched her slide into the seat, the corners of his lips curving upward before he walked around to the driver's side.

By the time Liz and Remington arrived at the Madden estate, the doctor was already there.

Nelson gave the doctor a grateful nod and instructed Jerome to walk him out.

Once they left, Remington looked at Nelson with a hint of concern.

He worried the old man would be crushed by the disappointment of a false hope.

Yet Nelson's face remained remarkably calm, betraying neither immense sorrow nor joy.

Just as Remington opened his mouth to offer a few words of comfort, Nelson looked right at him and asked a sudden question.

"You're the one funding Professor Gardenia's medical project, aren't you?"

The Starlight Group owned pharmaceutical subsidiaries and maintained close ties with various medical research institutes.

Nelson hadn't specified which professor or what project he was referring to.

Remington masked his mild surprise and simply asked, "How did you know?"
