Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1209

Nelson gently traced the photograph of his daughter on the headstone. After a long, heavy silence, he finally spoke, his voice cracking with age and regret.

"Elsa, I'm so sorry. It took me all these years to realize I had invited wolves into our home. Every single member of the Porter family is a monster. If I had seen their true colors sooner, I never would have let Eartha near you. Maybe then, you wouldn't have passed away without even seeing your real baby. It’s all my fault. But don't worry—this time, I won't let a single one of them escape justice!"

Nelson's shoulders slumped slightly, the morning breeze ruffling his silver hair.

It broke Lizetta's heart to see him so burdened. She stepped up and murmured a few comforting words until he squeezed her hand tightly.

"You stay here," Nelson instructed softly. "Spend some more time with your mother."

"Okay, Grandpa."

Lizetta knew what this meant—he was deliberately leaving her alone with Remington to pay their respects.

It was a massive step forward. It meant Nelson had officially given Remington his preliminary blessing.

She glanced over at the man beside her. Remington flashed her a devastatingly handsome smile.

Jerome helped the two elders down the path, leaving Lizetta and Remington standing shoulder-to-shoulder before the grave.

The two of them stood in solemn reverence, bowing their heads respectfully before Elsa’s headstone. After a quiet moment, Lizetta looked up at the photograph and made the introductions.

"Mom, this is Remington..."

Remington turned his head to look at her, affection practically spilling from his eyes.

"You've talked to Mom about me before?" he teased, his voice carrying a distinct, arrogant delight.

"Mother-in-law, I was a complete bastard in the past. I made terrible decisions and hurt Liz deeply. I am endlessly grateful that she has found it in her heart to accept me again and give me a second chance, just as I'm grateful for her grandparents' mercy. I swear to you, for the rest of my life, I will love her, protect her, and honor her. I will never let her suffer another grievance. I hope that from wherever you are, you can see the truth in my heart and give us your blessing. Please watch over me so that I can officially win your daughter over, remarry her soon, and start a beautiful family of our own..."

This wasn't the first time Lizetta had heard him make these vows.

But every time she listened to him speak with such intense, raw devotion, it sent a fresh wave of electricity straight to her heart.

She was naturally terrified of abandonment and lacked a sense of security. If Remington had only offered empty words, it wouldn't have meant much.

But everything he had done recently proved that he meant every single syllable.

Words backed by action were a lethal combination.

Lizetta was just starting to feel a lump in her throat from the sheer romance of it all, only for him to immediately derail his own speech into shameless territory.
