Arya’s POV
‘Why?’
‘Because I have a surprise for you.’ Geoffrey sounded light, but I could tell he was up to something.
‘What kind of surprise?’
‘The kind you have to be there for.’
‘Geoffrey, just tell me what it is.’
‘Skip the patrol. Come to my room after your training, and I’ll tell you then,’ Geoffrey responded before closing the link.
I frowned, annoyed.
“That was your brother,” Walden said.
“He wants me to skip patrol tonight. He won’t say why. He says he has a surprise and just closed the link like when we were kids,” I huffed.
“That’s not so strange.” Walden slid off the fence and dusted off his hands. “The man thought you were dead for years, Arya. Now he’s got three days left with you, and he’s watching them run out. Of course he wants your evening.”
“He could just say that.”
“He’s been an Alpha for a long time. Men like that stop asking for things directly.” He shrugged, lips twisting in a wry smile. “It’s easier to call it a surprise than to admit he misses you.”
“I’m on the roster.”
“Now you’re not,” Walden said. “It’s a quiet week, and I could use the walk. Go see what your brother has planned.”
“Walden.”
“Go on. Don’t make me regret it,” Walden said.
I left Walden by the fence. My boots crunched on the gravel as I crossed the yard. In my room, I washed off the sweat and dust, changed into clean clothes, and forced myself to walk down the long hall to Geoffrey’s door.
He opened the door before I finished knocking. He must have been standing there, waiting for me.
Geoffrey smirked. “There she is, my obedient little sister,” he said as he stepped aside to allow me into the room.
I rolled my eyes and said, “I’m not obedient, and I’m not little.” I moved past him into the room. “I’m a grown warrior, Geoffrey. I'm the Deputy Chief Warrior of this pack. You’ve only been back in my life for two days, and you still talk to me like I’m nine and hiding behind your leg.”
“It’s just a habit.” He shut the door. “Sit down.”
“I’ll stand. What’s the surprise?”
“It’s a plan.” He leaned back against the desk, arms crossed.
“A plan?”
“Sit down, and I’ll tell you.”
“No, I'd rather stand.”
Amusement flickered in his eyes. “You’re as stubborn as you were at six,” Geoffrey said. “Tell me something. Do you want to be Chief Warrior?”
“Yes, why?”
“How long?”
“Since I was fifteen. That’s why I train so hard.”
“Good.” He smiled, but it was sharp and cold. “It’s already handled. When Walden is gone, your name will be the only one considered. No one else stands a chance. You’ll get it years sooner, and you won’t have to worry about Walden holding you back. Sometimes you have to make your own opportunities.”
Silence filled the room.
“Say that again.”

The readers' comments on the novel: Second Chance for the Barren Luna (Talia and Jason)
I really like this book however, it is getting too tiring of too much of the lack of use of common sense and repetitive motion of Talia being stubborn (stupid) to be caught/kidnapped so many times. I still do enjoy it just getting a little tiring. Thank you!...
I really appreciate the author taking the time to write this book! Keep up the good work. This has become my sweet treat to read before bed every night after I get my kids down. Keeps you on the edge waiting for what happens next! So adventurous and really compelling story line. Truly appreciate the hard work that it has taken to write something of this nature and level. Thank you author....
