Evangeline ultimately swallowed her words.
When she had given Soren that condition, it was solely to throw an impossible obstacle in his path and show him it was never going to happen. She had zero intention of actually getting back together with him.
She could resolve this mess herself before he ever managed to fulfill that so-called promise.
...
Lockridge Manor.
The blinding sun slowly dipped low, bleeding out into a crimson dusk.
A line of trembling staff members filed nervously past Victor, though none dared to actually leave. Instead, they quickly joined another tightly formed group standing a short distance away.
Bodyguards patrolled the perimeter of the crowd, ensuring absolutely no one slipped out.
As the end of the line approached, Victor's expression grew darker and more lethal by the second.
When the very last person walked past and there was still no sign of Theresa, the temperature around him dropped below freezing.
"She's not here," Victor stated.
Madden stood nearby, quickly assuring him, "We have men surrounding the entire perimeter. Not even a fly could escape."
"If Miss Carlisle is still on the grounds, she isn't getting out."
But if she couldn't get out, where the hell was she hiding?
They had scoured every inch of the estate, even checking the dumpsters, without catching a single glimpse of her.
Was she never here to begin with?
Was his deduction wrong?
Or...
"Where haven't we looked?" Victor asked coldly.
Madden hesitated, thinking it over. "The older generation's quarters, and Miss Lockridge's room."
"But your hunt for Miss Carlisle has already enraged the elders. Barging in now will only cause a massive fallout. And Miss Lockridge just flew in yesterday; she's jet-lagged and hates being disturbed..."
Before he could finish, Victor had already stopped listening.
