The Array Masters behind Feng Li urged him to renege on his defeat. After all, Feng Li was from the Feng Family; who would dare to do anything to him? Since they had lost fair and square in the open, they would resort to underhanded tactics. These Array Masters were determined to take this resplendent branch guild for themselves.
"Shut up," Feng Li barked, silencing the Array Masters behind him. They didn’t understand why he was suddenly so angry.
"My Feng Family does not fear losing; we only fear refusing to admit defeat," he declared.
Feng Li took a deep breath. He had come here at the behest of a woman. Even though he had lost, he would not deny it. He was a member of the Feng Family, and he had not forgotten the lessons he had been taught since childhood. Losing wasn’t terrible; what was terrible was refusing to admit it.
He looked at the little girl, then back at Wu Tian, and conceded weakly, "I’ve lost, and I admit it."
The little girl nodded.
Wu Tian commented calmly, "You lost, and you admit it? It seems you’re not beyond saving. That’s more like an heir of that old lunatic."
Old lunatic? Is he referring to one of my elders? Feng Li was stunned. He realized he had to ask his family about this as soon as he returned.
"You may go," Wu Tian said. "Remember, the reason Array Masters are the foremost profession is not just because of their high-level Formations, but also because of their virtue and their service to the people. If Array Masters were always selfish, the profession would never have reached its current standing."
"Virtue?" Hearing this, Feng Li was taken aback. Reflecting on his actions, he couldn’t help but feel ashamed. He decided he would return to his family and dedicate himself to studying Formations, avoiding such disputes unless it was a matter of great importance.
"You’re letting me leave?" Feng Li still asked, afraid that Wu Tian might decide to keep him there.
"Go," Wu Tian said.
Defeated and with his pride utterly shattered, Feng Li offered his genuine thanks. "Thank you, sir."
"Don’t thank me. Thank yourself," Wu Tian replied seriously, with no trace of a joke in his voice. "If you had agreed with them just now, you would be dead. Leave quickly."
His resolute tone startled Feng Li. Does my status as a member of the Feng Family mean nothing? He had his doubts but dared not test the theory.
"Yes, sir!" Feng Li nodded and bowed before turning to leave. The Array Masters behind him began to follow.
"Hold on," Wu Tian suddenly said, his voice cold.
The atmosphere chilled once more.
Feng Li stopped in his tracks, his heart pounding. Is he going to kill me after all?
Just as Feng Li was wondering how to ask, Wu Tian stated flatly, "Feng Li can leave. The rest of you will die."
The Array Masters behind Feng Li were dumbfounded, realizing Wu Tian’s killing intent was directed at them. Heavens, how did it come to this? Their hearts trembled. Wu Tian is too mysterious. His daughter knows powerful Formations, but what about him? The more they thought, the more terrified they became. One of them had a sudden idea and said, "Sir, you must have heard of a certain saying."
"And what saying would that be?" Wu Tian asked calmly.
"’The law does not punish the masses,’" the Array Master said with a smile. "Sir, with your profound wisdom, I’m sure you understand what I mean."
Wu Tian nodded. There was a large group of Array Masters behind Feng Li. The plea, "the law does not punish the masses," was meant to convince Wu Tian to let the matter go. Otherwise, killing so many of them would be an arduous task.
Seeing Wu Tian nod, the corner of the Array Master’s mouth curled into a smile. The other Array Masters also breathed a sigh of relief, believing Wu Tian would let them off the hook.
But in the next moment, Wu Tian declared, "You will die all the same."
"Bastard!"
Wu Tian’s words caught everyone off guard. He’s the Overlord of the earth? Who would believe that?
"What kind of power is this?"
They all stared at Wu Tian in confusion, but he offered no answer. This was his secret: the Earth Spirit Root, a legendary existence within the Cultivation system. In the future, Wu Tian would use the Earth Spirit Root to comprehend the Laws of the earth. Then, upon the earth, his word would be absolute.
Seeing that Wu Tian wouldn’t answer, the Array Masters grew displeased. One of them spoke up, "Always so secretive. That’s why so many unique skills have vanished without a trace. You should be generous and share what you know so it can be passed down for eternity."
"Die," Wu Tian said coldly.
A Blood Glow flashed. A fountain of blood sprayed from the neck of the Array Master who had just spoken. However, this was only the beginning. The Blood Glow, as if it were alive, was not satisfied with just one kill. It decided it wanted more.
Instantly, the remaining seventy-one Array Masters had their throats slashed, blood bursting from their necks. One horrifying head after another tumbled to the ground.
GULP.
Feng Li swallowed hard, feeling incredibly lucky to be alive. In his eyes, Wu Tian’s methods were akin to those of a Ghost God.
"I... I will take my leave now," Feng Li said, bowing before departing.
On the basement level, Wu Tian turned to Yang Ziwei and the others. "The issue is resolved. My daughter is now your Guild Master. Any objections?"
"N-No... no objections," Yang Ziwei and the others stammered, shaking their heads like bobbleheads, completely stunned by Wu Tian.
Wu Tian nodded. But in the next moment, Feng Li came rushing back down, his face a mask of panic. "Th-This is bad! Outside... outside..."
It seemed some major event was taking place outside the Array Master Guild branch.
