She instructed them to resume supplying pharmaceutical raw materials to the York family, but strictly limited them to a short-term contract.

"A short-term contract means they'll get three to five batches max. If the Yorks want to keep doing business after that, they need to learn exactly what they can and cannot do."

Dealing with any other family might have been a hassle, but she had the York family completely by the throat.

After hanging up, Emma reached up and rubbed her temples.

Carter looked over at her, his eyes filled with quiet ache.

He knew she was only doing this to ensure Jocelyn's engagement party went off without a hitch, deliberately putting a leash on Gavin so he wouldn't stir up trouble.

Carter thought for a moment, then lowered his head to shoot Jeff a message.

By the time they arrived home, the housekeeper was waiting at the door to greet them.

"Dinner is ready. It's a light, healthy menu tonight. However, we have guests. The Gifford family is here."

Carter frowned. "Who else?"

If it had only been the Giffords, the housekeeper would have never let them stay.
