Rejected and Pregnant I Fled The Pack (Evelyn and Damon) novel Chapter 117

Chapter 117

Damon pov

I got Evelyn settled into bed, exhaustion finally winning out over her lingering fear, though her sleep still looked tense, fragile, her hand curled protectively over her stomach even unconscious.

I moved quietly through the apartment afterward, checking each lock, each window, the careful, methodical routine I’d adopted these past three weeks since the first threatening note appeared. Sarah was posted just outside, another warrior stationed at the building’s rear entrance, and still I checked everything myself, unable to fully trust the security to anyone else’s vigilance alone.

My phone buzzed as I finished securing the last window.

An unknown number. I opened it warily, already suspecting exactly what I’d find.

“We know about the baby. You can’t keep her safe.*

Ice flooded through my veins, cold and immediate, my hands actually shaking slightly as I stared at the screen. We’d told no one beyond my parents, hours ago, in the privacy of our own living room. How could she possibly already know?

My wolf surged forward instantly, fury and protective terror both crashing through me in equal, overwhelming measure. I felt my hands curl into fists, felt the familiar prickle beneath my skin that signaled how close I actually was to losing control entirely, to shifting right there in the middle of our living room out of pure, uncontained rage.

*Destroy her,* my wolf snarled, no longer content with simple vigilance, no longer willing to wait for council investigations or careful, measured legal process. *She threatens our mate, our pup, the new life growing inside her. End this now.

I forced myself to breathe, forced my hands to unclench, understanding even through the haze of fury that shifting now, alone, driven by blind rage rather than actual strategy, would accomplish nothing beyond potentially endangering everyone I was trying so desperately to protect.

“I want to hunt her down myself,” I said, the words leaving me before I’d fully thought them through, my wolt still pressing hard against my restraint “Right now. Find wherever she’s hiding and end this threat permanently ”

“Damon.” My father’s voice carried genuine warning now, cutting through my rising fury. “I understand exactly what you’re feeling. Believe me, if anyone understands the urge toward violent, immediate action right now, it’s me. But you cannot act on that impulse. Not now, not like this. If you go after her alone, driven by rage rather than strategy, you risk everything your own safety, any legal standing we currently have, and worst of all, leaving Evelyn and Willow actually unprotected while you’re out chasing after Genevieve alone.”

I closed my eyes, forcing myself to actually absorb his words despite my wolf’s continued, insistent pressure He was right t understood he was right, even as every protective instinct screamed at me to simply act, to eliminate the threat directly and immediately rather than continuing to wait for careful, measured process.

“What do I do then,” I asked, my voice tight with barely restrained frustration. “I can’t just sit here, knowing she’s somehow tracking us this closely, knowing she’s already demonstrated she can circumvent whatever security we implement.”

“We escalate formally, Tmediately,” my father said. “I’ll wake Helena myself if necessary. This latest threat, combined with everything else the fabricated accusations, the dead flowers, the note left in my own hospital room despite security-this should be more than enough to authorize emergency intervention. Formal detention, if the council agrees, while a full investigation into exactly how she’s managing circumvent our security is conducted.”
