Otherwise, there was only going to be further complications. They couldn’t kill her but he suspected his father was thinking along some different lines. Ones that involved pain instead.

His father’s eyes have a strange glint to them. “Death would be too merciful for the likes of her ”

“We promised Raven…” Damien trailed off and cleared his throat, “We promised Raven that we would

leave everything to her.”

Even if it was one of the hardest promises they had to make. If it made Raven happy, then it was worth the sacrifice, at least that’s what Damien had tried to tell himself.

“I can still take my revenge without taking away Raven’s chance. She needs to be taught a lesson, even if it’s just a little one. She needs to learn what happens when you mess with the Shadow Pack.”

Damien’s mouth goes dry. “What exactly do you have in mind?”

He knew his father had a dark side, all Alphas did, but it very rarely showed itself.

“It’s better you don’t know Damien. I’m no saint, and I kept my temper in control not only for your sake but also for your mother’s. She’s gone now and there’s no need to keep pretending. I’m more vicious than you can imagine. I have no scruples. When it comes to protecting my own, I will do anything, even ruin a woman’s reputation and even her body. For years, MaryAnne Sinclair has acted as though she’s untouchable. But I know more about her than anyone. Grace told me everything. His father obediently stood up and made his way towards the stairs, reeking slightly of alcohol, stumbling a bit.

“Keep her safe, Damien,” he said in a raspy voice, “keep our baby girl safe. I don’t think my heart could take it if I lost her again.”

“I will,” Damien’s voice was hard, “Nothing is going to happen to her, I promise you.”

It was a promise he intended to keep, but what was his father up to, and why was he acting so secretive? Just how far was his father going to go in order to punish the woman responsible for all the misery and suffering his family had been forced to endure? Damien shivered, feeling chills down his spine.
