Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 71

Chapter 71

He sounded miserable now. Too bad. I wasn’t anywhere near finished with him or his friend yet. Not by a long shot.

“If you’re both here, then how can you be trailing them?” I asked slowly, realization dawning.

There were three of them. There had to be. We had missed one. Shit. It would be too late to find them now. They would have taken off if they were smart. The man gives a bitter laugh, confirming my suspicions. Damnit. I feel rage coursing through my veins. I want to knock the man’s teeth out I’m so angry but I hold back, at least for now.

“It’s too late. Our mistress wants this person dead. They’re too much of a threat to them now, too much of a wrench in her plans. They’re getting too nosy, digging up too many secrets that should have remained hidden.”

“Tell me, who is it?” I shout, plunging the knife into his other leg as he bucked and screamed.

I was beyond pissed off now. I was sick of his games. I just wanted the truth.

The silver burned his flesh. I kept it in for a good long while. He refuses to budge. Whomever his mistress is, he’s more scared of her than me, at least for the moment. I suspect he won’t be able to

survive the torture I have in store for them both.

“It’s better if you leave well enough alone. What’s done is done. You can’t prevent it; you can’t stop her. You would be better off focusing on the present and your responsibilities,” he rasped.

“Fuck you,” I hissed, turning around and eyeing the trolley filled with torture implements.

I examine them and then choose the pliers, turning around with a dark scowl on my face. Whether he liked it or not, he was going to give me the answers I sought.

“I don’t think so,” I said doubtfully, “he looked too smug when he spoke as though I was never going to guess who they had their eyes on.”

“Marissa,” Jackson said unexpectedly, “they must have designs on her. It makes sense. She’s your fiancée, and taking her would make you vulnerable.”

“Except that they want this person dead,” I said doubtfully.

Then again, what if they were merely giving me untruths to distract me from their true agenda?

“They might have lied,” Jackson argued, “let’s at least double security around Marissa for now until we work out who their target was.”

“Fine. Nobody will be able to get near her. It will be a load off my mind at least,” I exhaled and then nodded at the bodies on the ground. “Get this cleaned up and make sure nobody touches them without gloves. Whatever poison they used, it had a delayed reaction, but enough to kill them within minutes. Try and locate the third,” I ordered, “but I suspect they might be long gone by now.”
