Chapter 67
“It’s impossible. The lab must have made a mistake,” my throat tightens.
I’m grasping at straws. But I don’t want to believe it’s real. I can’t. The alternative would hurt me too much. It would be too much to bear.
It can’t be true. I don’t believe it. But another part of me knows, instinctively, he’s not lying. The pain shooting through me is overwhelming. Aeress snatches the file from me and reads it slowly, her head turning as she gapes at me, speechless.
“I had three different labs perform the test. They all came back the same,” his voice is filled with grief,” you’re my missing sister and my father’s daughter.”
The missing daughter of the Shadow Clan. The one they had been searching for, for 21 long years. My entire life had been built on a lie. I was never a Sinclair. I was never a sister to Marissa or even a
daughter to MaryAnne Sinclair. It all made a sickening sense now. No wonder I didn’t look like them. No wonder they took such pleasure in hurting me. I was some sort of pawn in their sick twisted minds. Some form of revenge that MaryAnne Sinclair had taken against my mother. I needed answers.
“You’re my daughter,” I hear the anguished whisper come from Alpha Daxton, who is standing in the doorway, tears openly trickling down his cheeks as he puts a hand to his mouth.
He’s heard everything. Clearly, he hadn’t been a party to this and had no previous knowledge of what Damien had done. I feel conflicted, even as I can’t deny the amount of pain on the poor man’s face.
“Father,” Damien turns, “I was going to tell you after…”
Aeress is quietly sobbing, overwhelmed by the touching scene.
“Please sit down,” I’m concerned, motioning for him to take a seat next to Damien. “This is a lot for me to take in.”
That was putting it mildly. It felt as though my heart was breaking into a thousand tiny pieces as I forced myself to face the truth. The painful, heartbreaking truth. I was stolen as a baby and only now am I facing the family that should have been mine all along.
“I know,” Damien’s eyes shine as he continues to stare at me, a look of awe on his face, “but we can’t just let you go now that we know who you are. You’re a Shadow, and we always take care of our own. Please, we have to know,” his lower lip curls back, “who dared to steal you and claim you as their own?”
Something told me he wasn’t going to rest until he had answers and I had to admit, I wanted them as well.
