Chapter 204
Raven POV
I screamed. Not the kind of happy or joyous one, but one filled with pain and the agonizing rage that I aimed solely at my mate as I squeezed his hand with a death grip.
“Damn you Hades, you did this to me,” I screeched as he winced.
I was fairly certain I’d broken several of his fingers, although he made no complaints.
Wise man.
“You’re doing great, sweetheart,” he soothed.
I glared. He swallowed hard. The nurses looked amused.
I was definitely not having the kind of birth experience I’d read about in books. This was pure torture and the worst part was that pain relief was virtually nonexistent because shifters absorbed it too quickly into the bloodstream.
“The head is crowning,” the doctor said from between my legs.
It felt like I was pushing a huge watermelon out of a teeny tiny hole that refused to grow. If I’d known how painful childbirth was, I might have had second thoughts.
“Come on honey, just a few more pushes,” Hades murmured.
“Easy for you to say you neanderthal” I shouted, “you’re not the one trying to give birth! Oh, you’re lucky I can’t transfer the pain to you, or I would have in a heartbeat.”
He flinched.
“Would it help if I told you how much I love you?’
“Will that help take the pain away?” I hissed.
“The baby is crowning. Come on, Luna, push a little harder. You’re almost there.”
Even the doctor was starting to piss me off. Why was she so cheerfull? Didn’t she understand I was several seconds away from bloody murder and Hades was first on my hit list?
Another contraction. My body arched, my mouth opened. I screamed, not caring how loud I was.
If men had to do this, I’m sure they would be screaming louder.
Hades wiped the sweat off my brow as I collapsed back onto the bed.
“It was worth it,” I whispered.
Hades relaxed. Too soon for my liking.
“Oh trust me, you’re going to pay for this.” I told him darkly as he eyed me guiltily, “But for now, would you like to hold our daughter?”
His eyes brightened. He took hold of her as though she was fragile, cradling her to his chest, his eyes fixated on our little bundle of joy.
“My princess,” he whispered, his voice cracking, “I’m your daddy. I’m going to spoil you so much,” he added, touching her cheek with a trembling finger.
My heart melted. I’d never seen Hades look so happy as he was right now. His arms gripped our child with a possessiveness, and I knew that he would do everything in his power to keep our daughter safe. Both of us would. History would not repeat itself. We had guards at every corner of the hospital and outside the door. We weren’t taking any chances.
The door lightly swings open. Damien and my father step inside.
Hades reluctantly passes our daughter to my father who holds her with tears shimmering in his eyes.
“Hello, baby,” he croons, “I’m your granddaddy Daxton but you can call me Dax,” he said, stroking her head and kissing her softly on the cheek.
“Give her here,” Damien argued, “I want a turn. I told you she would be a girl,” he added triumphantly at me.
