Raven POV

“Goddamnit, this is my fault. I should have fucking had more men watching her. I should have expected something like this to happen!” he breathed, slamming his hand into the wall again and again, chunks of plaster scattering to the floor.

I turn my head. He hasn’t realized that I’m awake. Aēress puts a gentle hand on his shoulder.

“You couldn’t have known. Raven’s fine, Damien. She just needs time to…” she trailed off, shrugging helplessly.

Damien looks as though he’s about to rip everything in the room apart. He’s more than angry. He’s furious.

Luckily, it’s not with me but with himself. Still, I feel a pang in my chest. He has nothing to be sorry for. Nobody could have anticipated this.

“Recover,” I rasp, and they turn, both of their eyes widening in shock.

“Holy shit. Thank God,” Damien breathed, moving closer and taking one of my hands, “how do you feel?” he asked in concern.

“Better,” I said wryly, “like somebody donated blood?” I questioned sweetly as Damien flushed and nodded tightly.

“You needed it. Your body looked like you went through several rounds in a boxing ring,” he muttered, “and then some. At least you came out the victor,” his eyes brightened.

I laughed, sitting slowly upright as he hurried to help me. Aeress’s eyes are twinkling.

“He and Hades almost came to blows,” she said, shaking her head and tsking as Damien grunted in displeasure, ” your room almost turned into a fighting arena.”

Naturally. It seemed as though Damien and Hades didn’t like each other. Maybe they were each conflicted when it came to their feelings about me?

“You fought with Hades?” I said, bewildered as Damien sat down and let go of my hand, crossing his arms against his chest, “Why?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said coyly, provoking her further.

It infuriates her. She stomps her foot. “Don’t lie to me. You weren’t supposed to…” she shouts at the top of her lungs.

Bingo. She knew. She knew about her mother’s lover. Either that or she was talking about the transaction with Alpha Drake that was meant to take place.

I tilt my head. “I wasn’t supposed to what?” I asked sweetly.

She shuts her mouth and glowers at me. She knows to speak the words out loud will only incriminate her.

“I’m warning you, Raven, don’t’ push me too far. I know you know where mother is.”

“I haven’t seen her since we were at the bridal shop. If she’s missing, shouldn’t you have other packs looking for her?” I widened my eyes and looked innocently at her.
