Chapter 26 Terminate The Agreement

He walked over and sat down on the couch, crossing his legs.

Aurelia noticed that his attitude was somewhat unusual.

Is it because of what happened at La Royale Hotel today?

She walked over and sat down across from Matthew.

The events that transpired at La Royale Hotel today have nothing to do with him, right? Is he afraid that others will discover my relationship with him?

It can’t be. We signed an agreement. I didn’t speak a word to him today. So, why is he wearing such a stern expression?

As she was pondering the reason, she noticed a contract laid out on the coffee table.

Upon seeing the words “Secret Marriage Agreement” above, she was somewhat taken aback.

Isn’t this the agreement we signed on the day we got our marriage certificate?

Seeing the puzzled look on Aurelia’s face, Matthew said, “You remember the terms of the agreement, don’t you?”

Although Aurelia was somewhat confused, she still nodded.

At the time of signing the agreement, she had given it a cursory read. There were no excessive stipulations, apart from the emphasis on maintaining the confidentiality of the marriage and the specified duration of the agreement.

“Mr. Quigley, just get right to it.”

Matthew held a cigarette between his fingers. As the smoke swirled around him, his facial. expression was obscured, making it hard for anyone to read.

Watching Aurelia act as if she had no idea what she had done wrong, Matthew couldn’t help but scoff with laughter.

“Speak up, how did you and your boyfriend plan this? What do you want from me? Before we head to City Hall to get divorced, I will give you what I can for the sake of Grandma. After that, don’t show up in front of her again.”

Aurelia furrowed her brows, finally understanding why his face was so icy. “Curtis and I have long since broken up, and I never thought to gain anything from you. Old Mrs. Quigley has always. been good to me, and my marrying you is simply to repay her kindness. You can rest assured.”

“You’ve long since broken up?” Matthew listened to Aurelia’s lie, opened his phone, and tossed it in front of her.

Aurelia stood up, picked up her bag, and headed upstairs. “I’m going to pack my things. I’ll be moving out of Starry Sea Mansion tomorrow. When the time comes, just tell Grandma… that after spending these days together, we realized that our personalities clashed and we couldn’t envision a life together. I believe she will understand.”

Matthew raised an eyebrow in surprise. She has even prepared her excuses in advance? 

Aurelia could tell that Matthew was suspicious and defensive of her. Without waiting for his response, she headed straight upstairs.

“There’s no need to rush packing your things. You can do it after you return from City Hall tomorrow. I’ll have Gordon give you a ride,” Matthew said.

Aurelia shook her head. “I don’t have many things, so packing up won’t be a hassle.”

Matthew remained silent, his face slightly cold.

Ten minutes later, Matthew appeared in front of Aurelia’s room.

He looked at the neatly packed suitcase. The room had already returned to the way it was before she came.

She held no ounce of nostalgia for Starry Sea Mansion.

An indescribable feeling welled up in his heart as if his previous guess had been wrong.

Before he had time to think further, he looked at Aurelia, who was already looking up at him, and said, “Grandma just went to the hospital with a bad heart condition. We need to rush there now.”

A sense of urgency gripped Aurelia. “Hasn’t she been feeling better for the past two days?”

“We can only know the specifics once we arrive at the hospital,” Matthew said in a deep voice.

Aurelia immediately stopped what she was doing. “Let’s hurry over, then.”

“Okay.”

The road was clear of traffic, so they arrived at the hospital half an hour later.

Upon arriving at the hospital, they headed straight for Mabel’s ward.

Upon seeing their arrival, Evelyn quickly relayed Mabel’s current situation. “Old Mrs. Quigley just fell asleep. She said that if you arrive, you should eat something first. She mentioned that she has something to discuss with you once she’s awake.”
