Their conversation had come to a halt two days ago. 

She had received a message from Justin while Aurelia was chatting with her that night.

Nancy then called Justin, hoping to remind him to take better care of his health. However, it was his secretary who answered the phone, curtly informing her that Justin was busy. 

At that time, Nancy had a gut feeling that Justin was growing tired of her. She spent the entire night awake, consumed by this thought. 

This time, she didn’t take the initiative to contact him again. 

In the end, he hadn’t sent a single message, and it had been two days already. 

Nancy was generally a carefree person, but even she could sense the growing distance from the man she shared a bed with. 

She couldn’t comprehend it. We haven’t been married long, so why has Justin become so impatient and distant with me? However, Nancy didn’t want to dampen Aurelia’s mood while she was traveling.

Even Justin’s mother told her to be more understanding as Justin had too many things to handle on a daily basis. 

Nancy’s mother also told her that she couldn’t expect Justin to always keep her company. 

She glanced at her phone again, observing their chat history over the past couple of months. The frequency of their conversations had dwindled, even the duration of their video calls seemed shorter than before.

She gripped her phone tightly at the thought of that. This time, she was determined to see when Justin would think of her. 

Gradually, Luna came to terms with the harsh reality of her amputated legs. 

Yet, her emotions would occasionally crumble. 

Lying in bed, unable to move, she felt as though she was being tormented to death. 

Upon seeing the pumpkin oatmeal which she had been eating over the past two days, she lost her temper. She then overturned the bowl and slapped Melanie across the face. 

Melanie was left dumbfounded by the sudden blow.

“Did you buy me such a terrible tasting oatmeal on purpose? Is this how you all are going to treat me now that I am bedridden and unable to move? Can’t you change it up for once?” 

I can clearly tell they despise me for being disabled! The care they provide me is far from diligent! 

Aaron immediately stepped in from the side to shield Melanie. He lowered his head, his heart aching as he examined Melanie’s face, which was now reddened from the slap. Then, with a frown, he reprimanded Luna, “Mom! How could you hit someone just like that? Mel has been taking care of you wholeheartedly! It was the doctor who said you can’t eat all those stuff, so it has nothing to do with Mel! We understand that you’re struggling after the car accident and losing your legs, but you need to be considerate of us too. We’re at the hospital taking care of you from dawn till dusk and it’s exhausting, okay?” 

Melanie’s eyes welled up with tears, her face ached, and her heart felt even colder. As expected from someone who isn’t my biological mother! 

In the past, Luna used to feign a deep mother–daughter bond, but now, she didn’t even bother pretending anymore. 

“I am your mother, the mother of both of you. I’ve labored to raise you, and now that I’ve been in a car accident and need care, have you both been dutiful? Speak from your hearts! Have you two fulfilled your duties?” Luna’s eyes were red–rimmed with emotion. 

Though she had lost her legs, she still had her eyes and could see clearly how they had been. treating her these past few days. 

Some people did stay at the hospital to care for her, but they were always frowning. If she had. any personal needs, they would show obvious distaste. If she mentioned pain in her leg, they would simply say that all amputees experience pain and asked her to bear with it, to be considerate of them.. 

“Mom, we’ve always been devoted to you. We’ve put aside other things and jobs so we could focus solely on taking care of you in the hospital. How could you say we’re not giving you

She was sick, and the doctor had advised against cating indiscriminately. The oatmeal was even delivered from the hotel upon Melanie’s request. Despite her being so considerate, Luna was still excessively critical. 

“You’re so sensible, Mel,” Aaron said, turning his head to look at Melanie with a gentle gaze.

It seemed as if time had come to a standstill. 

Suddenly, a shadow appeared in her line of sight. 

Aurelia lifted her gaze and turned to look at the person who had suddenly appeared behind her. 

Upon realizing who was standing behind her, her face fell. 

“Auri, we are quite destined to be together, aren’t we?” Curtis asked, gazing at Aurelia with deep affection. 

Aurelia’s expression was as cold as ice. Her disdain for Curtis was not even slightly concealed as she asked, “How did you know I was here?”
