Zhou Weimin was on the verge of losing his mind.
To hell with dignity, if he really cared, why bother hinting at him, getting involved with him in an ambiguous way, the two entangled together?
Agitated, he rubbed his forehead and lit a cigarette, taking a heavy puff only to start coughing incessantly, clearly choking on the smoke.
Kang Li nodded.
The research institute.
Director Song was overwhelmed. A week ago, he received a call from his wife saying that Wen Siyuan’s wife Su Man had been caught having an improper relationship with her brother-in-law by her own sister, who then caused a huge scene in their compound, asking him whether to inform Wen Siyuan.
He was distressed to the point of despair, unsure how to broach the topic with Researcher Wen. But after hanging up, deliberating over it, he nonetheless called Researcher Wen to his office and briefly explained the situation.
After all, Researcher Wen had the right to know; even though he couldn’t afford to be distracted from his work, a domestic issue like this was serious enough that if Director Song knew and kept silent, it would be hard to explain himself later should Researcher Wen find out.
However, after hearing out Director Song, Wen Siyuan’s expression did not change at all, nor did he say he needed to go home to deal with the issue, only responding with, "Thank you for informing me, Director."
Afterward, he straightforwardly turned and left.
Now, only a week has passed since that day, and Comrade Su, Researcher Wen’s spouse, has caused another commotion, running to the university where his foster daughter teaches, demanding to meet her.
What a senseless lunatic!
Pinching the bridge of his nose, Director Song picked up the office microphone, dialed the number for Luo Yanqing’s project group, and about fifteen minutes later, two tall and imposing figures appeared in Director Song’s office.
"Since you’re here, let’s discuss as we walk."
Director Song rose from his office chair, intending to head to Shuimu University with Luo Yanqing and Wen Siyuan.
"Did something happen to Li Bao?"
Once they were out of the office, Luo Yanqing asked Director Song.
Hearing this, Director Song first glanced at Wen Siyuan, then looked at Luo Yanqing with a heavy face, saying, "Xiao Wen’s spouse ran to Shuimu University at noon, carrying a controlled knife, alone in the broadcasting room, and is using the broadcast to force Li Bao to meet her..."
Without holding back a bit, Director Song disclosed everything he knew.
Luo Yanqing: "Did Xiao Li call you?"
"Yes."
Director Song nodded and continued, "After speaking with Li Bao, I contacted you and Xiao Wen, thinking you both need to go there."
Shifting his gaze to Wen Siyuan, Director Song asked: "What’s your plan regarding your spouse Xiao Su’s situation? I heard from Li Bao that Shuimu University has already called the police to prevent Xiao Su from causing harm to faculty and students.
Moreover, Xiao Su is very agitated; something big must have happened to her today. She’s threatening to jump from the fifth-floor window of the broadcast room."
Wen Siyuan pressed his lips, remaining silent.
Director Song sighed, saying again: "I don’t know the details of your marital problems, how it got to this point, but I hope you can sort them out quickly, do you understand my meaning?"
"I understand." Wen Siyuan nodded, then listened as Director Song continued: "Both you and Little Luo are aware that you cannot afford to be distracted with your work given its nature; if your family affairs aren’t resolved properly, it will inevitably affect your ability to focus professionally."
Wen Siyuan nodded again.
Luo Yanqing: "Why did she go to Shuimu University? And why does she wish to see Xiao Li?"
"Li Bao didn’t say." Director Song shook his head and spoke up: "However I feel Xiao Wen’s spouse’s issue certainly has nothing to do with Li Bao."
Luo Yanqing’s expression was cold and her voice icy: "From Monday to Friday Lili has classes, and because Luo Mingting and his siblings attend kindergarten at Shuimu University until Saturday afternoon, Lili only brings them back to the compound when school ends; from a timing perspective, she practically has no regular contact with Teacher Wen’s spouse. This leaves me bewildered, why on earth would Teacher Wen’s spouse insist on causing trouble for Lili?"
Although these words were directed at Director Song, Luo Yanqing’s gaze was particularly cool and distant when it swept over Wen Siyuan.
