She had only one thing on her mind back then: get stronger, kill every beast she could find, and avenge her mother.

This life was different, though. Steven wondered if she’d even register Elliot’s existence.

He also remembered that Lilliana eventually tried to get close to Elliot later on, and got turned down flat.

That was genuinely funny to think about.

The shock Elliot’s awakening sent through the crowd took a long time to settle, and the Divine Awakening ceremony paused briefly to let the field regain its composure.

Elliot stood at the center of all that attention and looked completely at home in it. The adoration rolling toward him from every direction seemed to be exactly what he expected.

He was also, it had to be acknowledged, very handsome, and more than a few girls in the crowd looked like they’d completely lost themselves staring at him.

Steven noticed that even Lilliana, proud as she was, couldn’t seem to pull her gaze away.

She probably thinks only someone like that is worthy of standing next to her.

Steven let out a quiet, private laugh.

You can admire him all you want. He won’t even look at you.

Enjoy the shock while it lasts. What’s coming next is going to make all of this look small.

Nelson appeared at Steven’s side, grinning.

“Steven, I pulled B–rank.”

Steven nodded with a smile. “Told you.”

Nelson blinked. “Hold on. You actually called it. Are you seriously able to see things before they happen?”

Steven smiled and said nothing.

Nelson didn’t push it.

“We’re both Bs. Add a couple of Os, and that makes…” Nelson started.

Steven put a hand over Nelson’s mouth before he could finish.

“Just shut up, okay?”

Nelson pulled the hand away. “Oh come on, boob’s not censored.”

Steven rolled his eyes.

“Just be quiet and watch.”

“Watch what?”

Steven tilted his head toward Bianca, who was stepping up to the Awakening Guidance Pillar.

“You’ll see. The real moment is about to happen.”

Nelson looked thoroughly confused.

Bianca pressed her hand against the pillar.

Her expression was completely steady and certain.

I trust Steven. Everything he said is going to be true.

Lilliana, I’m going to show you that S–rank isn’t the ceiling.

The current poured into her body like a tide coming in all at once.

In that instant, something deep inside Bianca stirred as though it had been waiting years for this exact moment.

Her blood began to burn.

The current that flooded into her body started moving, gathering upward, converging toward the center of her brow.

A terrifying pressure began to build at that single point, dense and absolute.

In that same moment, every high–ranking Awakened present, every teacher and military officer who carried multiple Sigil seals, felt something shift in the air around them.

Steven finally let himself smile.

No surprises. Exactly as it should be. The Ember Eternal has come back.

Nelson stood beside him and looked completely blank.

He couldn’t make himself believe what his eyes were telling him.

That thought spread from person to person across the entire field.

Is that gold light? Is that actually SSS–rank gold?

Rowenville had never produced an SSS–rank Awakening in living memory.

Rowenville is about to have a future Divine Saint.

A future Divine Eternal!

There was one person in the crowd whose composure was crumbling completely.
