Chapter 39 Moving In
“Agility 11 + 7/100
“Speed 11 + 7/100
Steven stared at the panel with wide, stunned eyes.
“No way. It actually worked. All I had to do was think about it!”
A short, disbelieving laugh escaped him. It really was that simple.
Whatever distribution he pictured in his mind, the system followed. He’d been thinking about spreading the points evenly, with the remainder going into Strength, and that was exactly what happened.
He hadn’t expected it to be that easy.”
The corner of his mouth pulled up. He was starting to understand how this worked.
One level 2 beast crystal really did count as ten level 1 beast crystals and nothing more.
That was fine. He wasn’t going to push his luck.
The only column that stayed unchanged was Eye of Insight.
“Looks like improving Eye of Insight is going to take a lot more than this,” he said quietly.
But he was satisfied for now. Eye of Insight was already remarkably powerful at its current level.
A few moments later, he eased out of that focused inner state and opened his eyes.
It was already morning.
He pulled in a long, steady breath.
His body felt full of energy, clear and sharp. He raised one fist and threw a casual, loose punch through the
air.
The impact split the air with a sharp, percussive crack, like a compressed burst of force releasing all at once.
Steven blinked.
“This strength…”
It was terrifying.
期
He couldn’t wrap his mind around how much stronger he’d become.
His psychic strength felt fuller too. It was denser and more present. He could feel real changes in his Speed and Agility as well. The whole picture was almost unsettling.
He grinned, wide and unguarded. Every single change was a good one.

He believed it now. Beast Energy Conversion was going to rewrite the entire course of his life.
A voice drifted in from outside the room.
“Steven, come on out, breakfast is ready. You two need to get to school.”
It was Vanessa.
Steven smiled. “Coming, Mrs. White!”
Finished
His first breakfast with the future Ember Eternal, and they were eating it together. Things were off to a good
start.
The four of them settled around the table and ate.
Vanessa smiled warmly across the table. “Steven, try it. Tell me if it suits your taste.”
Steven took a bite, and his eyebrows went up in genuine surprise.
“Wow, Mrs. White. You can cook! This is incredible.”
Vanessa laughed softly. “You don’t have to flatter me.”
“I’m not, I promise,” Steven said, grinning. “I really mean it.”
Vanessa gave a pleased nod. “Have some more.”
Bianca kept her head down through most of it, too shy to fully meet anyone’s eyes.

Steven smiled over his shoulder. “Told you. He’s actually easier to get along with than he is with me. He just acts cold on the outside. You’ll see for yourself soon enough.”
Bianca watched his back as she walked behind him, and something in her chest settled in a way it hadn’t in a long time. A feeling she couldn’t quite name, but didn’t want to let go of either.
She stayed quiet the rest of the way.
She just stayed close.
On the bus, Steven kept himself positioned so the crowd couldn’t press in on her. She didn’t even have to
ask.
She liked this feeling. She liked it a lot.
But a quiet worry was turning over in her mind.
How was she ever going to repay him?
She had nothing valuable to offer. She had nothing at all, really.
She had nothing but herself.
Maybe she could just stay by his side forever.
The thought made her flush all the way to the roots of her hair.
Bianca, you’re absolutely shameless. He hasn’t said he wants anything from you.
But if what Steven said turned out to be true, if she really did awaken an SSS–rank Divine Sigil, then maybe someday when she was strong enough, she could be the one protecting him instead.
