Chapter 36 You Can’t Die
Steven let out a sigh of relief and slumped down beside Peter.
Neither of them spoke for a long time.
For the Awakened Squad, absolute trust between teammates was everything.
They could entrust their lives to the other person without hesitation.
Finished
That was why the bond between them had long surpassed ordinary friendship. It was forged through blood and battle.
Steven had always understood that.
But in his previous life, he had missed far too much.
This time, he didn’t want to miss it again.
He recalled the teammates who had died one after another right in front of him in his previous life. He let out a bitter laugh.
This time, I’ll repay all of you. It’s my turn to protect you all!
Not long after, a woman dressed in a tight green combat suit came running over in a panic.
She immediately dropped to her knees in front of Peter.
Her figure was slender and graceful, her features beautiful. She looked around 30, carrying the aura of a mature beauty.
Her face was already covered in tears.
Both Bianca and Vanessa recognized her immediately. It was the woman who had treated Steven before.
Her entire body trembled.
Her
ice choked with sobs, and she couldn’t stop crying.
“No… You can’t die… You bastard!”
Her eyes were filled with heartbreak and unwillingness to let go.
The leaf–shaped Divine Sigils on both her arms had already begun glowing green.
Even the sigil at the center of her forehead released its power.
She cried out in grief, “You can’t die!”
Bianca and Vanessa both fell silent.
Steven watched the scene unfold and silently sighed.

Streams of healing power flowed into Peter’s body, yet there was still no response from him.
“No! Wake up!”
Finished
Before long, the rest of Peter’s teammates arrived as well.
It was Steven’s first time seeing them.
Everyone gathered around Peter.
They stood there in silence, looking sad.
Darlene broke down in tears.
“Wake up! Jerk! You still haven’t married me! Wake
The other teammates couldn’t bear to watch.
Darlene activated her sigil pattern power.
A green leaf materialized and sank into Peter’s wound.
But Peter still showed no reaction. He wasn’t even breathing anymore.
It felt as though the sky had collapsed for Darlene.
She was completely at a loss.
“Why didn’t you run? Why didn’t you survive? Tell me!”
Tears and blood streaked across Darlene’s pretty face.
With trembling fingers, she reached out and gently touched the still–warm face before her.
She wiped away her tears while continuing to pour out her power, desperately trying to save him.
One
of the teammates couldn’t stand it anymore.
“Darlene… don’t be like this…”
“No! He won’t die!
“He promised me so many things he still hasn’t done yet!”
Steven struggled to his feet, his expression solemn.
Under the shocked gazes of Alan and the others, he gave Peter a salute that only the Awakened Squad would understand.
It was the highest honor among the Awakened Squad!

Danny Conner flashed a grin. “As long as Darlene doesn’t mind, I’ll offer you 100 of them. You’ll be happy every single day.”
Everyone burst out laughing.
Darlene smacked Peter lightly.
“Urgh…” Peter groaned painfully. “Let me sleep for a bit. It hurts like hell. So tired…”
He closed his eyes again.

Chapter 36 You Can’t Die
“Don’t sleep!” Darlene snapped.
“Relax, I’m not dying. I can’t bear to die.”
Darlene continued channeling her healing power into him.
The other teammates also stepped forward to help.
Steven watched the scene, smiling faintly.
Good. At least his trip back here hadn’t been for nothing.
As long as Peter survived, that was enough.
At that moment, Steven felt as though a layer of guilt in his heart had finally faded away.
Alan called Steven over to the Bloodfang Rat King’s corpse.
“I’m the captain of Team Ashen. My name is Alan Greenwood.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Steven Fisher.”
Alan nodded. “Yeah, I know. Thank you.”
Steven shook his head.
“He was the one who saved us. Without him, we probably would’ve died long ago.”
Alan nodded. Then he looked at the Rat King.
“You killed it?”
