Chapter 329 The Truth in Fiona’s Heart

Steven and the others were dumbfounded.

Good grief. So this was Fiona’s father!

The Divine King father who had controlled her entire life!

A one–star Grand General of the Military Command.

This situation looked far more complicated than they had imagined.

What exactly was going on?

Alan remained calm. He had long expected something like this to happen.

Fiona no longer avoided her father’s gaze.

“Apologize for what?

“Was anything I said untrue?

“You want me to join the Military Command and follow the path you’ve laid out for me. Lieutenant General, one–star Grand General, two–star Grand General, three–star Grand General, maybe even four–star Grand General.

“You want me to bring honor to the family and to uphold the family name.

“But did you ever ask me? Is that what I want?”

Her eyes

were red.

Jameson’s anger showed no signs of fading. “That’s right! I did it for myself! Everything I did was for myself! I risked everything to protect you, teach you, care for you, find the best mentors for you, search out the combat arts most suited to you, and humble myself before Martial Masters to ask them to guide you.

“All of it was for me! Fiona, is that really how you see me?”

Pain filled Jameson’s heart.

The man in camouflage hurriedly stepped in. “Fiona, your father did all of this for your own good. Stop making him angry.”

Jameson no longer wanted to discuss those matters. This was not something he considered pleasant to

expose in front of others.

He turned his gaze toward Alan.

“Terminate the contract.

“I’m taking her with me.”

Alan’s expression remained indifferent as he turned to Fiona.

“Do you want to leave?”

Fiona answered without hesitation. “No. I’m a member of Team Ashen for the rest of my life. I would rather die than join the Military Command!”

The words nearly drove Jameson insane with anger.

Alan turned back toward him. “No can do.”

Veins bulged across Jameson’s forehead.

“Terminate it.”

Alan replied coldly. “Nope.”

Jameson exploded. “You really think I wouldn’t dare touch you?”

The next instant, Alan’s aura erupted.

Jameson roared, “You brat! Have you forgotten your mother’s last words?”

The mention of her mother finally shattered Fiona’s composure.

Immediately, tears rolled down her face.

Choking back sobs, she said, “The one who forgot Mom’s words was you!”

Seeing his daughter so heartbroken, Jameson’s fury seemed to vanish in an instant.

His own eyes reddened as well.

“Why won’t you listen to your father? Everything I’ve done has been for your own good.”

Fiona looked at him. The tears in her eyes sparkled as she asked, “Dad, do you still remember Mom’s final words?”

Jameson froze. How many years had it been since he’d heard her call him that? Most of the time, Fiona addressed him as “Commander.”

Without waiting for an answer, she continued. “Mom said she never hoped I would achieve anything extraordinary. She only wanted me to live happily. Even if I became an ordinary person, as long as I was happy, that would have been her greatest wish.

“But I know the kind of family I was born into, and I know I have responsibilities to shoulder.

“So I’ve always worked hard, and I know you love me.

“But Dad… I really can’t keep going like this.

“I’m so tired. I feel like this entire world is fake. Every single person around me feels fake.”

Jameson stood stunned.

The members of Team Ashen wore different expressions.

Fiona continued through her tears. “Everyone flatters me and treats me with excessive respect, so I never hear a single honest word.

“People either praise my appearance or praise my talent. For a long time, I got lost in all of it, and I couldn’t even see who I really was anymore.”
