Reborn: Apocalypse Ready. War Goddess by My Side novel Chapter 322

Chapter 322 Grandpa’s Trump Card

Finished

Steven wanted to ask about the relationship between Jensen and Brian, but he never got the chance. All he could do was see the Divine King off.

Then he turned to look at Brian in the rocking chair.

It seemed Brian really was a hidden expert!

“Grandpa, aren’t you going to tell us what happened?”

Brian glanced at them and said calmly, “What’s there to talk about? Go get cleaned up and get some sleep.”

Steven still wanted to ask more.

But Alan caught the hint. Some things could only be discussed among family.

Alan quickly said, “Steven, the Reads probably won’t dare cause trouble here for now. But you and Bianca still have to return to the academy.

“When that time comes, be extra careful.”

Steven nodded. “Got it, Captain. We’ll be careful.”

Alan said, “Then we’ll head out first. You’ve had a long day too. Get some rest, and be careful on your way back to the academy.”

Steven froze for a moment. Are they leaving already?

An apologetic look appeared on his face.

“I didn’t handle things well. I dragged everyone into this mess.”

Peter grinned. “Don’t say that. We’re teammates. We face things together and back each other up. The crisis is over now, so get some rest.”

Steven nodded.

After saying their goodbyes, everyone headed out.

Alan had caught a glimpse of the truth behind what had happened, so he wasn’t worried at all.

….

Only Steven, Bianca, and Brian were left in the courtyard. Vanessa was inside the room taking care of Hope.

The old man lay back in the rocking chair.

Calm and at ease, as if nothing had happened tonight.

“If you’ve got questions, just ask,” Brian said.

Steven and Bianca exchanged glances.

Steven tried a grin, testing the waters.

“Grandpa, you’re not actually one of those legendary hidden masters?”

Bianca also looked over curiously.

Brian looked at him then, his gaze unusually deep.

Steven swallowed hard.

Could it really be true?

Suddenly, Brian said, “If I were some super powerful hidden master, I’d march straight into the Reads, shove all those Divine Kings and Divine Generals into the toilet, and scrub them around until they begged for mercy. I’d knock every tooth out of their mouths and leave them scattered across the floor.

And just because he helped you tonight doesn’t mean he’ll stand guard over you every day. You still need to be careful yourselves.

Aren’t you trying to keep your SSS–rank hidden? Then grow stronger with your own abilities.”

you. The road you choose for yourself is one you’ll have to walk to the end, even if you have to do it on your knees.”

Steven nodded. That was true.

Brian said, “I’ve already used up a huge favor. For now, the Reads won’t dare trouble us here. Stay at the academy and focus on evolving. The less often you come back, the better. We’ll be fine.”

Steven nodded. He really did need to get stronger as quickly as possible.

Brian spoke earnestly, “No matter what happens, don’t be afraid. If I die, it’s no great loss. One foot’s already in the grave anyway.

“The road ahead is yours to walk. There’s only so much I can do for you, but I won’t be a burden you’ll have to carry. Do you understand?

“So do what you need to do. The sky isn’t falling.”

Steven nodded. “Grandpa, you’ll live to be a hundred.”

Bianca nodded obediently as well. “Grandpa, we’ll remember.”

Brian looked up at the sky.

“I don’t want you risking your life in fights like this, either,” Brian said quietly. “But the world’s a dangerous place. It’s a lot more complicated than you think, which is exactly why you need to become stronger.

“I just don’t want you ending up like your parents–gone without a trace, leaving an old man like me to ourlive my own child. In the end, I didn’t even get to see a single piece of their remains. At the very least, live long enough to bury me first.”

Steven and Bianca were stunned.

Sometimes they felt Brian just said whatever was on his mind. What should’ve been a heavy, painful moment somehow turned into something oddly funny every time he said it out loud.
