Chapter 309 Grandpa, Actually

Vanessa was overjoyed, gently smoothing Bianca’s hair.

“It’s my fault for not being able to provide better for you back then. My daughter was always meant to be this beautiful.”

Bianca shook her head. “No, Mom. You did amazing.”

“Mrs. White, Bianca’s the campus belle at the academy now.”

Vanessa smiled and nodded. “My daughter is that pretty. Of course she’d be the campus belle.”

Bianca and Steven exchanged a glance.

Then Steven looked at Brian.

“Grandpa, I’ve been gone for so long. You’re not even gonna say you missed me?”

Brian gave him a look that said everything.

Then he turned to Bianca with a bright smile.

“Now that you’re this beautiful, I bet a lot of boys are interested in you. Seen anyone suitable? Steven might not be good enough for you anymore.”

Hearing this, Steven’s jaw dropped.

Grandpa, are you for real?

I might need to run away from home

Bianca said a little shyly, “Mr. Fisher, I haven’t really had much contact with anyone this past month. Most people don’t even dare come near me.”

Brian smiled and nodded. “This brat hasn’t been bullying you, has he? If he has, you need to tell me. It’s been a long time since I’ve had an excuse to beat him up.”

Steven stared at him blankly.

“Wait, am I actually your biological grandson?”

Bianca quickly said, “Mr. Fisher, no! Steven hasn’t bullied me. He even helped me beat up bad people. He’s ‘been protecting me the whole time.

“Please don’t keep thinking about hitting him.”

Brian chuckled. “It’s fine. My hands are just itchy. This kid’s tough. He can take a beating.”

Steven felt like crying.

Maybe I don’t need this grandpa after all

Chapter 309 Grandpa, Actually

Vanessa smiled and said, “Steven, your grandpa’s just teasing you.”

Steven let out a wry laugh. He didn’t think Brian was joking. The beatings he’d gotten as a kid were at least as many as the meals he’d eaten.

Brian said, “You all keep chatting. Dinner’s almost ready.”

He stood up. His back was still slightly hunched.

Steven got up and followed him.

“Grandpa, let me help.”

Once they stepped into the kitchen, Brian busied himself with whatever he was doing.

“Grandpa, are you really not the least bit curious about what I’ve been up to? Weren’t you worried I’d die put there?”

Brian didn’t even look at him and said indifferently, “You’re back, aren’t you? Your arms and legs are all intact. What’s there to worry about?”

Steven’s face twitched.

“Grandpa, sometimes I seriously wonder if I’m really your grandson…”

The next second…

Bonk!

A soup ladle smacked him.

Steven clutched his head, looking exactly like Tom the cat.

“Grandpa!”

Brian said, “If you don’t know how to talk, then shut up. If you weren’t my grandson, why would I have raised you all these years? You think I have nothing better to do?”

Steven could only laugh helplessly. The old man had treated him the same way for as long as he could remember.

Yet whenever Bianca was around, he suddenly turned into a kind, doting elder.

The difference in treatment was unbelievable.

While thinking about that, Steven pulled out an origin energy cannon.

“I should be asking you that. Are you trying to murder your own grandpa? Why are you pulling out a cannon?

“I’m not trying to be funny. I genuinely think it’s junk.”

“Grandpa, are you secretly some bigwig or something? Even this is junk to you?”

Brian snorted. “What? I was a One–Sigil Awakened back in the day. Am I not allowed to look down on a little piece of junk like this?”

“You weren’t an Awakened. You were-”

Brian’s eyes narrowed.

“I was what?”

Steven instantly shut up.

“Nothing…” he said with an awkward laugh.

Brian gave him one deep look.

Then he said flatly, “Don’t worry about me. I’m old. If I die, it’s no great loss. Just do what you need to do.”

Steven sighed inwardly. “Alright.”

Realistically, nobody would bother targeting an old man anyway.

“Take the dishes out. Time to eat.”

Carrying the food, Steven suddenly said with his back to Brian, “Grandpa, actually…”

Brian’s hands paused for just a second behind him.
