Chapter 252 His Guess

Froished

The fight between them swung back and forth like two elemental forces refusing to yield.

Alan drove Theodore crashing through the ruins of an ancient wall, and Theodore’s blade sent Alan hurtling backward through the air in return.

Both of their battle armors were starting to show visible cracks and fractures, and both of them were bleeding.

Neither of them made any move toward stopping.

Theodore’s voice came out raw and savage. “You failed to protect her! You don’t deserve to be alive!”

Alan’s eyes were cold and completely flooded with red.

“Why didn’t you act? Why? She didn’t have to die! None of them had to die!”

Theodore roared back. “You failed to protect her! Every single death falls on you!”

Alan heard those words, and whatever restraint remained inside him burned away entirely.

“And what were you doing? You just stood there and watched! You’re worse than the beasts we fight!”

Theodore’s voice fractured. “What do you mean I didn’t act? She was right beside you! Why didn’t you protect her? Why didn’t you?”

Blood–tinged tears ran from Theodore’s eyes, and the grief behind them was the kind that never heals, only hardens.

That response only broke something within Alan into a sound that was too hollow to be a laugh.

The two of them collided once more, and both launched away from the impact, landing hard.

Both of them felt the depletion pressing in, a bone–deep exhaustion that combat against beasts had never quite produced.

Fighting at this level, against someone who knew you, cost something different.

Alan pressed his hand over his eyes, and the sound that came out of him was somewhere between laughter and grief, unhinged and devastated at the same time.

“Even now, you still don’t understand what you did, do you? Why didn’t you activate the Divine Protection Barrier? Why?”

“Theodore. You should have died for what you did!”

Theodore snarled and drove forward again. “Lies! Everyone died because of you, you worthless waste! You’re the one who should have died!”

Scalding tears ran down Alan’s face, mixed with blood, and neither stopped.

Chapter 25249 Guess

Flushed

The grief inside him had nowhere left to go.

Yvonne deserved better than the end she was given.

The anguish of that, the raw and irreversible wrong of it, exploded out of him all at once.

And Theodore, even now, refused to acknowledge a single thing he’d done.

Through the blur of tears and blood, Alan thought he saw a face.

It had a gentle, warm smile; the kind that had carried him through some of the worst years of his life.

He used to think that as long as he could stand beside her, nothing else mattered.

He loved her with something that had no rational floor, and her smile had lived in his memory every single day since she died, impossible to bury and impossible to bear.

Alan’s smile came out pale and shattered.

“Yvonne. Do you see him? He was never worthy of your love.”

The words came out like something being put down rather than spoken.

Theodore’s voice came back brutal and contemptuous. “Spare me the performance. You’ve always been like this, making yourself the tragic one. You killed her. You killed all of them!”

Theodore’s roar filled the ruined street as he launched forward again.

His third Divine Sigil blazed to life and threw violent arcs of purple lightning across his entire body, crackling and unstable, barely contained.

“Die already!”

Alan’s third Divine Sigil ignited at almost the exact same instant.

Wind coiled and surged around him, violent and absolute.

Thousand Windblade Slash!

The concussion shook the earth, and fragments of both their battle armors scattered through the air.

“Edric, after you were rescued, did Alan and Theodore ever have a single real conversation? Did they ever actually sit down and talk?”

Steven felt a cold realization begin to form. Dear God, my guess could actually be the true story.

Behind her were the faces of every squadmate who should still be alive.

The grief inside him had reached a depth that no longer felt like emotion.

He thought of the look on her face in the moment she died, the sorrow and the absolute finality of it, and in that moment the part of him that could still feel a future died with her.

He wanted one thing.

He wanted Theodore’s death. After that, he would go after every member of the God Eaters and every shadow in the military that let this happen.

Every one of them owed a debt that only one currency could settle. Their lives.

Alan drove his feet into the earth and tore a long furrow through the ground as he arrested his

momentum.

His eyes were entirely red now, locked on Theodore across the distance.

The killing intent between them pressed the air down like something physical.

Alan wiped nothing from the blood at the corner of his mouth.

He launched himself forward again.

Theodore’s answering roar tore out of his chest. “You’re the one who should die! You!”

Theodore’s fourth Divine Sigil ignited.

His straight heavy blade became something barely recognizable, wrapped entirely in living lightning, transformed into a weapon of pure destructive thunder.

His eyes held nothing left that resembled reason. “Die!”

Alan’s fourth Divine Sigil began to pulse and ignite in the same breath
