Reborn: Apocalypse Ready. War Goddess by My Side novel Chapter 19

hapter 19 She’s Finished

A hot, ugly surge of irritation rose through the Dean.

“Stand up for you? You played favorites with Timothy in the first place.

“What possessed you to assign him self–reflection essay out of nowhere?

“You took things too far.”

Cassandra’s eyes went red at the rims, and she dropped her gaze.

“So that’s just it? We’re letting this go?”

The Dean pressed two fingers to his temple. “What exactly do you want me to do?

“Just so you know, the administration is already moving to strip your homeroom teacher position. They’re reassigning you to standard instruction.”

“What?”

Cassandra’s head snapped up.

She shot to her feet like the floor had given way beneath her.

The full weight of it landed on her all at once.

“Sir, please, you have to help me. I worked so hard to get here.”

She reached out and grabbed his arm, drawing it firmly against her chest and holding it there.

The Dean’s thoughts went somewhere entirely unprofessional.

Cassandra knew exactly what she was doing.

She’d always known he wanted her, and right now, she needed that to work in her favor.

The Dean pulled his arm free.

“I’d really love to help, but this is coming from above me. What am I supposed to do about that?”

“Sir,” Cassandra said, and her voice dropped to something soft and deliberate.

“You oversee every teacher in this building. Reassignments are well within your authority.

“If you help me, I can…”

The Dean finally heard exactly what he’d been waiting for.

His composure started to crumble.

“Ms. Chapman, this situation is genuinely complicated…”

Cassandra’s eyes glistened.

She stepped in close, wrapped both hands around his arm, and held on.

“Sir, you have to help me…”

As she spoke, her hands were already doing more than holding.

The Dean made no move to stop any of it.

The atmosphere in the office shifted by degrees into something that had no business being in a school building.

“Please…”

The Dean cleared his throat twice.

“Fine, fine. But you’ll still have to step down for now. Once Divine Awakening and the SAT are behind us, I’ll bring you back on the next rotation. We have a deal?”

“Thank you, sir!” Cassandra’s face broke into a radiant, relieved smile, and she pressed a kiss straight to his cheek before he could react.

The Dean cleared his throat again. “Well… ah…”

Cassandra fixed him with a look that carried everything unsaid.

“Sir… it’s my first time…”

The Dean’s entire demeanor transformed instantly into something embarrassingly eager.

“Ha, I’ll be gentle with you… sweetheart…”

What followed inside that office was not something anyone would want to hear.

Two and a half hours of combat training finally came to an end.

What a difference. Even after training, she somehow managed to smell like a garden in early spring.

Even if you made that up, she thought, I don’t mind.

A quiet ripple of surprise moved through the students. Where’s Ms. Chapman?

The teacher nodded and addressed the room.

“I have an announcement. Your homeroom teacher, Ms. Cassandra Chapman, handled both of yesterday’s and today’s incidents improperly. The academic affairs office has disciplined her accordingly and removed her from her homeroom teacher position.”

The classroom erupted.

Every face in the room wore some version of stunned disbelief.

Their homeroom teacher had been removed.

And the thread connecting all of it led directly back to Steven.

The shock that moved through the students this time was deeper than anything they’d felt before.

More and more of them were starting to seriously question who Steven actually was.

Faces turned toward him, wide–eyed and uncomprehending.

Steven’s expression stayed calm.

Though somewhere beneath the calm, a small flicker of genuine surprise moved through him. He hadn’t expected things to go quite this far.

“Settle down,” the teacher said.

“From now until the SAT, I’ll be stepping in as your acting homeroom teacher. My name is Anthony Hillman.”

He looked toward Steven. “Are you satisfied with this outcome?”

Steven nodded easily. “That works for me. I don’t have any objections.”

Anthony nodded back. “Good. Then let’s get started.”

The students still couldn’t entirely hide the amazement written across their faces.

Just who is Steven? How did he manage to pull something like this off?

Timothy’s face was as dark as a thundercloud. This isn’t over. Not by a long way.

Across the room, Lilliana received the news in silence, and something inside her quietly settled into a
