Chapter 215
Why those?
Because the picture of me and Thayer it looks like one of them. Could’ve been taken the same day. Maybe it was
Maybe it wasn’t tied to the police investigation at all. Maybe it was taken by those guys Zebulon had tailing you.” Manny finishe
for me.
“Exactly,” I said. “Zinnia knew about the rumors. She was close to Zebulon and Theron’s old crowd. It wouldn’t be hard for her t
her hands on those pictures and twist them to fit her narrative.”
Manny exhaled. “Right… but what about the ones of Mrs. Lockhart? Those couldn’t have come from a bunch of teenagers with
with
cameras.”
I think those were manufactured,” I said quietly. “There are tons of public photos of Twila Lockhart. If someone wanted to fabricate
something believable, they had plenty of material to work with.”
He was quiet for a moment. “Alright. I’ll tell Theron. Hopefully Zebulon’s still willing to talk after everything that happened in LA…
A cold shiver ran through me at the mention. The memories came back fast and brutal Cyrus’s attack, the pain, the terror. But
beneath that came something else: fury,
He has to talk,” I said, my voice low and sharp. “He owes me that much. He let his father manipulate everything by refusing to
testify. He helped bury the truth.”
Yeah…” Manny sighed. “Let’s just hope he’s ready to fix some of the damage he helped cause.”
My lips curled into a grim smile. “Let’s hope.”
The next morning, a message from Manny confirmed he’d passed everything to Theron. I exhaled, finally able to breathe a little. In two days, I’d have a new phone and a way to talk to Theron directly again.
Shoving thoughts of my secret relationship aside, I reached for my phone to reschedule with Evadne. But before I could even tap her contact, the screen lit up with a call from an unknown number.
Eight… five… two…” I muttered. My heart skipped a beat. Hong Kong’s country code.
Why would anyone from Hong Kong be calling me?
With a slow, shaky breath, I answered. “Hello?”
Ms. Kennerly,” a deep, gravel-edged voice replied. It held a strange kind of cheer, but beneath it, something darker stirred. “A pleasure to finally speak with you. I’ve heard quite a bit.”

Chapter 215
I stiffened. “Who is this?
“My name is Chun Kit. I thought it was time we got acquainted. I understand you’re quite the extraordinary young woman.
I forced myself to swallow. “Well… this is unexpected, Mr. Chun. I’m surprised you even have my number.”
“I asked Jareth Lockhart for it. I hope that doesn’t offend you,” he said, almost amused.
1 bit back the rising irritation. I couldn’t afford to let emotion slip not with someone like him. I inhaled deeply and responded with
measured calm. “To what do I owe the honor of your call?”
“I admire unique talents, Ms. Kennerly. And you, I believe, are rare. I know you and my daughter have… differences. But I am a businessman. I overlook such trivial conflicts. That’s why I’d like to invite you to Hong Kong to visit our company, see our projects
firsthand.”
Calling everything Zinnia had done trivial made my blood boil. But I stayed silent. I wasn’t naive. Chun Kit was dangerous, and I had no doubt this invitation was more of a command than a courtesy.
“You’re inviting me to Pink Dolphin Entertainment?” I asked, surprised by the shake in my voice.
“The merger with Lockhart Digital is inevitable. It only makes sense that one of its brightest minds comes to observe the new operations.” His tone dipped just enough to make the words feel like a warning. “And I’m afraid I won’t take no for an answer.”
Panic flickered. This smelled like a trap. But what choice did I have? My fists clenched at my sides. I needed a lifeline.
“Could I bring someone?” I asked. “One of my team members speaks fluent Chinese. I’d be far more comfortable with him present.”
Chun Kit gave a quiet, indulgent laugh. “Of course. I’ll have two first-class tickets sent to you shortly. Your flight is tonight. Nine
sharp.”
The line went dead before I could say another word.
