Deep down, he knew Vincent would find out about his relationship with Scarlett sooner or later—even if they said nothing.
He just wanted it to happen sooner.
Seeing Damian agree, Scarlett's voice went low and soft. "Thank you."
Damian deliberately leaned in, tapping the corner of his mouth with a finger. "Then kiss me."
Scarlett rolled her eyes at his shameless act. She looked annoyed, but her heart fluttered.
Damian thought she'd refuse. But in the next instant, she leaned over and brushed a quick kiss on the corner of his mouth.
It happened so fast he barely registered it before she pulled back.
Once he recovered, desire surged. He reached out, pulled her straight into his arms, and held her tight. Resting his chin on top of her head, he asked huskily, "Shall we take Clara strawberry-picking this afternoon?"
Scarlett hesitated. "I might have to go to school at three."
"I have to head to the office too," Damian said. "But I promised Clara, and I want to keep it. It's still early. We'll pick her up, go straight to the strawberry farm, and be done in an hour if we hurry."
After a moment's pause, she nodded. "Alright."
Damian loosened his hold. "I'll get you some oatmeal. Eat a little."
Scarlett nodded. "Okay."
As he walked into the kitchen, her heart swelled with warmth and joy.
He soon came back, holding only one bowl of oatmeal.
Surprised, she asked, "Aren't you eating?"
He smiled at her. "We'll share one bowl."
Scarlett froze, her heart jolted.
She thought of Vincent. He had always hated sharing tableware with her.
She realized now: when someone truly loves you, they accept every part of you.
Damian fed her a spoonful, then asked, "What time will you finish at school?"
