The thought alone made Scarlett feel even more unsettled.
After hesitating for a while, she finally asked carefully, "Violet... do you think I should go see Ruth?"
Violet had been kneading dough, but at Scarlett's question, her hands paused.
She turned and looked at her directly. "Do you want to be with Damian again?"
Scarlett lowered her eyes and shook her head slowly. "I honestly don't know."
Violet laughed softly at that answer. With flour still dusted across her fingers, she lightly tapped Scarlett's cheek.
"If you don't know, then go."
Scarlett looked at her in confusion without speaking.
Violet smiled knowingly.
"Ruth helped Claire before too, remember?"
The second Scarlett heard that excuse handed to her so neatly, she laughed too.
"You're right. Just because she helped Claire, I should go check on her."
As soon as she finished speaking, she wrapped her arms around Violet in relief.
Violet only smiled quietly.
By now, she understood perfectly. Scarlett had already wanted to go.
She just needed a reason she could admit out loud. After letting go of Violet, Scarlett hesitated again.
"But what about Nathan? Is he even going to let me leave?"
Violet smiled reassuringly.
"As long as you actually have a reason for going out, Nathan won't stop you."
Scarlett's expression brightened immediately.
"Thanks, Violet. I'm going upstairs to get ready."
About twenty minutes later, she came back downstairs dressed to leave.
After saying goodbye to Violet, she left Theron Manor and took a cab across town.
By the time Scarlett arrived at Ruth's house and rang the doorbell, it was barely past eight in the morning.
A moment later, Ruth opened the door wearing a silk robe and house slippers.
"Scarlett?" she said in surprise. "Well, this is unexpected. Get in here, it's freezing outside."
The second she realized who was standing there, Ruth quickly opened the door wider.
As Scarlett stood there, she quietly watched Ruth's expression change.
At first, Ruth had clearly looked irritated about answering the door so early in the morning, but the moment she saw Scarlett, genuine happiness lit up her face.
Other than that, Scarlett couldn't detect any sign of distress.
Zachary had said Ruth cried all night, but right now she looked nothing like someone who had spent hours crying.
Seeing Scarlett still standing there distractedly, Ruth laughed.
"You planning on staying out there all morning?"
Scarlett snapped back to herself and smiled awkwardly.
"It's nothing, I just..."
But before she could finish, Ruth already understood.
"You came to ask about Damian, didn't you?"
Scarlett looked up in surprise, hope and confusion mixing in her eyes.
Even without answering directly, Ruth already knew she was right.
After several quiet seconds, Ruth shrugged casually.
"So he got arrested. Big deal. The lawyers will handle it."
Hearing Ruth say it so calmly somehow eased some of Scarlett's anxiety too.
Ruth got up from the couch, walked over to the kitchen, and started pulling fruit from the refrigerator.
After washing and slicing everything neatly, she arranged it onto a tray before carrying it back into the living room.
Then she settled comfortably onto the couch, grabbed the remote, and turned on the TV.
Some trending romantic drama was already playing.
Without even looking away from the screen, Ruth said casually, "Why are you stressing over him so much? Stuff like that is for men to deal with. Your job is to eat well, sleep well, and enjoy your life."
Scarlett still looked worried.
Seeing that expression, Ruth sighed helplessly.
"Scarlett, women worry themselves sick over everything. Trust me, life's easier when you stop carrying everybody else's problems too."
