Damian gazed at her intently. "Are you sure you have to go?"

Scarlett sighed softly, a touch of helplessness in her expression. "Lucy's a good person—she's like a sister to me. She hasn't done anything wrong."

Damian already knew what Lucy was like. And since Scarlett felt that way, he didn't have much choice but to relent. "Alright, go ahead. I'll be close by. If anything comes up, just give me a missed call. I promise I'll be there in under three minutes."

Scarlett offered a warm smile. "Okay."

The weather was beautiful that day—sunny and clear. Damian spent the whole afternoon out with Scarlett, and they didn't start heading back until evening was approaching.

Once they got home, Scarlett freshened up and applied a bit of makeup.

When she came downstairs, Damian walked her out.

As she got into the car, Scarlett noticed a beautifully boxed cake in the back seat, and beside it was a small, neatly wrapped gift.

Curious, she glanced over. "What's all this?"

Damian looked somewhat reluctant. "You can't show up to a birthday party empty-handed, can you?"

Scarlett smiled; she'd actually forgotten about bringing a gift.

Damian drove and dropped Scarlett off a short walk from the restaurant.

Stepping out with the cake and gift in hand, she paused by the car and reassured him, "Don't worry—I'll be fine."

Damian frowned, his concern clearly not eased. If anything, he looked even more uneasy.

He kept repeating, "If anything happens, just call out for me. The moment I hear you, I'll come running."

Scarlett let out a soft laugh, her eyes glistening slightly. "I will."

Damian walked her to the restaurant entrance, watched her go inside, and then returned to his car.

By the time Scarlett reached the private dining room, Luke and Lucy were already there.

When Lucy spotted Scarlett, she perked up instantly. "You made it! Where's my brother?"

As she asked, Lucy took Scarlett's hand and peered behind her, but there was no sign of Vincent.

Scarlett handed Lucy the cake she was carrying. "Happy birthday, Lucy."

Then she pulled out the birthday gift Damian had picked for Lucy from her bag—Scarlett had checked it earlier. It was an elegant jewelry set.

She thought it suited Lucy perfectly and decided to present it as if it were from her.

From the moment Scarlett entered, Luke hadn't offered a greeting or even really looked her way.

Lucy accepted the gift gleefully. "Thank you so much! You're the best, really."

As they began eating, Scarlett tried to pick up a meatball from the plate in front of her. Her fork kept slipping off it, and after a few failed attempts, she was about to give up.

Just then, a hand reached over, deftly lifted the meatball, and placed it into the small dish in front of her.

Scarlett turned to see it was Vincent who had served her.

Vincent seemed to realize what he'd done. Thinking back to how Scarlett had shared a bed with Damian the night before, he felt a sting of irritation and muttered, almost defensively, "I just didn't want you making a mess in the soup."

Scarlett let out a faint, dismissive laugh but didn't bother responding.

Sensing the tension, Lucy quickly jumped in to lighten the mood. "You know, Vincent, I didn't realize you paid such close attention."

Vincent set his fork down and gave Lucy an amused look. "Is it that obvious?"

Lucy nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah! You just naturally served her without even thinking. When you really care about someone, you do little things for them instinctively."

Scarlett had no interest in hearing any of that. She used the serving utensils to place a crab on Lucy's plate. "Here, Lucy—try this."

Lucy looked down and beamed. "Thanks!"

After that, Vincent grew mostly quiet. Luke didn't say much either, only chiming in occasionally.

About halfway through the meal, Lucy suddenly turned to Scarlett. "Oh, by the way—have you heard back from grad school yet?"
