No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 700

A little past midnight, Scarlett's phone buzzed abruptly on the nightstand.

In the stillness of the night, the ringing cut sharply through the quiet.

Still half-asleep, Scarlett reached over and answered without checking the caller ID.

Felix's calm, courteous voice came through. "Hello, Ms. Theron."

No matter the circumstances, Felix had always been respectful toward her.

Scarlett kept her tone polite in return. "Mr. Wilson."

Felix didn't waste time. "The court date is approaching," he said. "Let's meet tomorrow to go over everything once more."

Scarlett agreed right away. "Sure. I'll see you then."

That should have been the end of it.

She waited for him to hang up, but the line stayed open.

After a brief pause, Felix asked, "Ms. Theron... is Damian with you?"

At the mention of Damian, Scarlett's drowsiness vanished.

She wasn't sure how to respond.

Just as she hesitated, Damian leaned over from behind her and took the phone.

He brought it to his ear. "Felix. What's up?"

Felix didn't sound surprised at all. Hearing Damian's voice, he replied evenly, "Do me a favor—keep an eye on Eric tomorrow."

"Got it," Damian answered without pause.

"Pick him up from my place at eight," Felix added.

"Will do. Anything else?"

"That's all."

"Alright. Later."

Damian moved to end the call, but Felix hung up first.

Hearing the dial tone, Damian allowed himself a faint smirk.

He locked the screen and handed the phone back to Scarlett. "Here you go, sweetheart."

Scarlett took it automatically and placed it back on the nightstand.

The moment she set it down, Damian drew her back against him, his arm settling comfortably around her.

She didn't resist, relaxing into his hold.

Wrapped in his arms, she drifted into a deep, untroubled sleep.

Once he'd covered everything, he walked her through what she could expect once they were in court.

They were wrapping up when Scarlett's phone vibrated.

Felix nodded for her to take the call.

She glanced at the screen—and was taken aback to see Vincent's name.

Some part of her had assumed it would be Damian.

After a brief hesitation, she answered, "Hello."

Vincent's voice came through, rough and tired. "What are you up to?"

The question felt oddly casual, almost out of place.

Still, Scarlett replied, "I'm with Mr. Wilson. Going over the divorce case."

A long, heavy silence followed on the other end.

Then Vincent spoke again, his tone tense. "Vanessa's having a rough day. She'd be happy if you came by. If you're here, she'll brighten up."

Scarlett's expression cooled. "If that's why you called, I'm going to hang up now."

Vincent's voice turned low and strained, edged with frustration. "Is what you're doing really more important than your own daughter?"
