Chapter 803
I followed it down the corridor. The farther I went, the colder the building became. The lights above me flickered. A metal door stood at the end of the hall, beyond it was the basement.
I took another step and the lights went out. I stopped. For half a second, the whole building became completely
black.

Then, red lights flashed along the ceiling. A siren tore through the silence.
I looked up, “Fuck.”
A woman’s mechanical voice came through the speakers, “Security breach detected.”
I turned toward the corridor.
“Unauthorized person detected in restricted area.”
The alarm grew louder.
“All security personnel report to the lower level.”
My jaw tightened.
They had found me. Someone had probably found the bodies I left outside. I moved immediately. I stepped back into the shadow beside the stairwell as heavy footsteps thundered somewhere beyond the metal door. 1
The metal door at the end of the corridor slammed open. Four men came through, armed. They stopped when they saw the empty corridor.
One of them lifted his weapon, “Check the stairs.”
Another started toward me. I waited until the red light swept away from my position, then I moved. I crossed the small gap and disappeared behind a concrete support before the nearest guard could see me.
A burst of gunfire tore through the corridor. Concrete exploded beside my shoulder. I dropped lower.
“He’s here!”
The walls shook. I pulled my handgun free and looked toward the four men.
Four.
The corridor was too narrow.
The alarm was too loud.
The element of surprise was gone.
Fine.
I had planned for the possibility of being discovered. I hadn’t come this far carrying half an arsenal because I expected everything to go smoothly.
I reached for the communication unit, “Ciro.”
His voice came through immediately, “I’m here.”
“Status?”
1/3
+15 Benus
“Still outside.”
“Good.”
I looked toward the corridor, “Keep the helicopter ready.”
“What’s happening?”
“Their security finally woke up.”
Another burst of gunfire cracked through the hall. I ducked behind the concrete support.
“Boss-”
“I’ve got it.”
I ended the call, and the four guards spread through the corridor. They were trying to surround me.
Bad idea.
I looked at the building plans in my head, the basement was behind them. Gianna’s signal was below.
And I wasn’t going anywhere without her.
